Hahah nice spray job man. I got red all over the other shit when i did mine :P
I like the S2000 sticker(?) on it. How come you chose red? Too common imo

thanks guys yeah the paint turned out really well, the photo doesn't do it justice. yeah its a caliper sticker that bonds to the paint when it dries. i dunno really why i went for red... match the rocker cover :P? i thought a brighter color would look better behind the dark rims. i was thinking silver caliper black writing then black caliper white writing but yeah went red n white. hahaha i used soooo much news paper and masking tape to make sure i didn't get over spray and i filed the calipers down to take out large casting imperfections

Ahh you filed yours?! i was too pansy to fk around with the brakes just incase they didnt work when i finished. Just degreased and used a brillo pad to take some rust off. Mine has started cracking in some of the little corners and there's dirt shit on them from when i was spraying outside on a windy day. Are you gonna go red nuts? When i was spraying my calipers, i just sprayed my nuts at the same time cos i was bored
I had the red on red thing going for a while but it looked kinda cheap imo so i went to silver nuts. i reckon you could make the red work. make your wheels stand out really nice

i think it looks good man. umm prob wont change the nuts as these are js racing ones and they are like 1month old. i was iffy about filing them but a mate helped me out whos done a few. I filed them, then sanded with 220grit wet sandpaper, then degreased and cleaned it and then wiped it down with acetone then did thin layers of paint till i got it how i wanted it.

Nice, all the prep work really paid off in the end eh. Thanks for the tips :) when my paint peels off ill strip it off and follow your steps! Mine was a rush job but still took like 10 hours, i can't imagine how long yours took...

umm well with 2 ppl working on it it took us 4hrs to do one side then 1.5hrs to do the other side. we took it really slow as a few mates were over watching so very distracted but the 2nd half we zoomed through as we were running out of daylight and had to use a heat gun to speed things up. what i found shocking was the amount of paint. i bought 2 cans to do the job and we only used 2/3 of a can to do it lol

26-04-2011, 05:40 PM
I only used less than half a can! And i did 4 layers i think? I didn't even let mine dry lol had like 15min gaps in between layers. As soon as i put the last wheel back on, it started raining and some of the paint was still wet. All i need now is a caliper sticker that says INTEGRA :D nah just kidding i really like the S2000 sticker though, looks mint
greek_rambos2k
26-04-2011, 05:44 PM
you only need it to be touch dry then jump in the car n go for a drive. the brakes will heat up and bake the paint on and it will be mint. yeah i really love the sticker. had a choice between "S2000" and "Honda" but i thought s2000 would be much nicer

^why didnt i think of that... /facepalm
do you go for a drive inbetween each layer? or is that at the end
greek_rambos2k
26-04-2011, 06:09 PM
nah dont drive between each layer as you want it to be a little soft so the paint layers bond together, also decreases the risk of brake dust getting between the layers. the can actually says to let it bake at 93degrees for an hour. but driving the car is basically the same thing as long as you dont drive hard to burn ur pads and make heaps of dust just driving for maybe 10mins normally? will bake them on perfectly.

Looks good, the red works with the wheels
I did mine silver a few months ago, the old cement colour the brakes get after years makes them look like crap.
Have you thought about pulling out the brake pads and stripping the paint off them? I reckon it looks better when they're left unpainted.

aww man, I've always wanted to this... do you just take the whole caliper off and then brake pads, the spray everywhere :S?
It would good to find out so I can apply to my own.
Thanks

Imo it's harder to paint if you take the caliper off. Tape/newspaper off everything and spray the shit out of it.

probably paint stripper or acetone. i used acetone to remove paint off strut bars on my mr2 to respray them and that worked fine. also when you sand them down that will remove paint also. if it was me id try acetone as its like $1.20 a bottle from bunnings and if i needed something stronger id go for paint stripper.... unless someone out there has a better idea :P

lol... what lug nuts do you use?
I want a set, but in red?
do they have a lock nut though? eg. 7 sided nut or anything.
