So i went to my local honda, to get a service history and back in 2006 the timing belt was done, but this was when the car sitting at 100,000kms so it mustve been the major service interval, atm its sitting on 150,000kms, so its the age thats caught up, as its either 5 years or another 100,000kms....

What else should i replace since u gotta pretty much take out half the motor to access the timing belt?

BTW Honda wants $470 to replace a belt, what a joke!!!!............

D16y8 motor

may as well replace the timing belt tensioner, water pump, front crank seal, cam seals. Basically everything behind the timing belt cover.

well, honda recomended every 100k kms, or every 7 years.

So youve done 50k in 5 years, i reckon changing the timing belt now is a bit premature.

You could probably hold off for another couple of years IMO

If you can do the labor it will be under $200 to replace everything trism mentioned (non oem though)

I agree its a bit too premature due to age, its shame that even too look at the timing belt i gotta take off a host of things just to take a peek at it :(

And yeah, thats the plan to do most of it DIY, repco and Supercheapauto will be my friend LOL, Honda wants 80 bucks for a fuel filter, repco, 30 bucks! cant go wrong

Repco isnt as bad as people say. (its only coz i work for them lolol)

If you get a timing belt kit, itll come with the belt, tensioner, and most of them come with the crank and cam seals.

itll be a couple of hundred bucks but.

water pump will be about 150ish

that is very expensive for a non oem part. I purchased a water pump for $80 and timing kit for $90 (for D16Y1) from my local independent parts store

Righto.Repco prices are: A timing belt kit that comes with tensioner, cam seal and tensioner seal is about 125. Crank seal is 20 and waterpump is 117.

Sent from my custard cannon like Peter North.

thats still 38% and 46% more than what I paid. And my timing kit came with crank & cam seal and tensioner

actually, i think that timing kit has the crank seal in it.

so all you need to buy extra is the waterpump.

The timing belt kits that repco sell are gates, so no china cheapy stuff...

However, i would agree that an independant stor would prob be cheaper

What motor is it?

I'm in Brisbane so doesn't help you much. But the store was Budget autoparts in Oxley.

My timing kit was a dayco kit, not sure if they are made in china but I believe they supply alot of parts OEM

OP motor is D16Y8 I believe

everything for the d16y8 should be $145 delivered: water pump, timing belt, crank seal, cam seal, valve cover gasket (other seals on cover too) & tensioner pulley

then another $400 for someone to install
