Hi there,

I've recently purchased a 35W H1 6000k HID kit for my car but I have yet to install them.

The question is; that i've seen and heard about many cars with aftermarket HIDs that have a "dirty" (hazy yellow) headlight lens. I was wondering if this was actually from the HIDs.

Also if anyone knows if this can be prevented during the install; or if it's just a thing HIDs do to your car.

thanks in advance.

Unlikely to be caused by HID's, much more likely to be caused by sun damage. The yellowing is usually on the outside of the headlight lens.

You should do a projector retrofit though :p

This is extremely common on aftermarket headlights. It can happen due to:

Moisture getting into the head light
Cheap plastics used
Sun damage

HIDs are unlikely to damage your headlights unless they are cheap aftermarket ones.

sun damage 100%. HID's will do it if they're temperature is too high (they produce more UV)

i hear you can wax your headlights to protect them :S is this true?

I DIY'd it on my girlfriends car - sanded and sanded and sanded... then used a bit of plastic polish. Worked well but it comes back relatievly quickly. What did u use to protect ur lights?

a proper HID kit like the Kaixen kits on NS come with UV cut quartz for the bulbs and will not cause UV damage. since there are $30 ebay kits out there i don't think i can say the same for them.

all you need is a decent cutting compound (meguiars fine cut) and some elbow greese.. appply it to a terry towel or something and buff it out. mine look like glass now
