Hey guys,
im just wondering, is the antenna on the vti-r always UP? Even when im not listening to the radio? I reckon it looks pretty ugly and most the time im listening to CD's anyway. Is there anyway to make it go down when im not listening to radio?
Cheers

Your antenna should only come up when the radio is on... when radio off/car off you antenna should retract. Maybe it's broken (common problem)
considered an s2k antenna conversion?

It retracts when the cars off, but not when i'm listening to CD's. yeh i have considered yet, but very low on the to-do list.

Ahh sorry i misunderstood your question. I thought you meant it's ALWAYS up. I haven't tried CD so i don't know. Does it go down if you turn off the radio/cdplayer? Is yours the honda one or an aftermarket headunit thing
Yeah that antenna pissed me off cause mine gets stuck like mid way. Got an s2k antenna now looks so much cleaner imo

Put a switch in and turn the antenna on only when you're listening to the radio. It's easy to do and if you've ever installed your own head unit it will be a piece of cake

Here is your solution. Costs around $50 all up inc postage and it's one of the best mods you can do to your Integra. It looks awesome so buy it straight away!

It comes with instructions too I think.

Agreed. I ordered mine from locustom for $43, should arrive sometime this week. Should be 30 min install. If you want, you can wait til I install mine and ill let you know how it is, the radio reception etc. Otherwise its only $50 for a quick cosmetic mod

i got the locustom one, shit house reception but works sorta

I'm not sure if I care about reception or not... Once I get my head unit back in, with my iPod in there, I won't really use the radio. It would be nice for it to work, though, otherwise I may as well just remove the thing entirely.

I'll see how Charliebrown goes, as he lives in my area, and we'll get the same reception. I'll use my iPod 95% of the time, but sometimes you just want to listen to the footy, and occasionally there'll be a hip hop hour or some electro tunes on late at night. Oh, and the girlfriend likes to listen to Love Song Dedications occasionally. Yeah, come to think of it, I still want that 5%. :P

Do you guys plug your ipod straight into the headunit? As far as i know, the stock radio doesn't have an aux port. I use an FM transmitter and i just hope the locustom antenna is good enough to pick up the signal coming from 1m away... but yeah occasionally i do like to listen to the radio at night (love song dedications with richard mercer) :P
I think mines a locustom, got it from a member on here but it looks exactly the same as that so i assume it is. It can still pick up 96.1 just theres static and cant really hear sometimes. Meh i hardly use the radio anyways so suits me fine
@charlie: Nah i got an aftermarket headunit so i plug in my usb, makes life much easier lol. Get an aftermarket one theyre so cheap now... bought my pioneer on ebay for like $140 shipped brand new

I have a Pioneer head unit and front speakers, with a USB iPod cable. Sounds pretty nice. I'd consider putting an amp and sub in as well, but I like to fold the seats down and sleep in the back occasionally, so I don't know where I'd put them. I also need to rip out that CD stacker, which no longer works, but I can't manage to get the thing out.

I dunno how to even install a headunit... only thing i want is an ipod plug in port and i'm not willing to pay upwards of 150 just for that when fm transmitter does the job lol
haha fair enough. I think itll be fine if you use the fm transmitter cause all other stations are fine and clear, just 96.1 doesnt pick up as well.

^i've found about 10 guides on how to install the Shark2 antenna... and heard about the red plug for boosting the shit. Can anyone point out the best guide? Including how to do the red amplifier cable?
Some guides take off rear seats, rear panels and all this shit and its confusing

I know you guys are talking about the S2K antenna, but I have something else to say. I have the same problem of it being constantly powered with my head unit (Kenwood), even when listening to USB. In my centre console is a random switch installed by the last owner, but doesn't actually go anyway. I plan to plug the antenna into that switch and manually control it. I considered the shark2 conversion, but I personally don't like the look.

I'm still not understanding the red plug thing bro. You said you did some innovative shit? Could you explain that again?

See the blue connector from the stock antenna's motor? It plugged into another blue connector which came from the car's end. The blue connector from the car also houses 3 wires:
One is black (grounding wire, useless for conversion)
One is striped (yellow and green)
One is striped (red and white)
So basically you need to connect the red wire from the Shark antenna to either the yellow/green wire or red/white wire from the blue connector in order to power the Shark's amplifier.

Ahh ok just need to strip it and tie. Didnt understand your last post and thought you had to extend the wire or something to get it long enough to touch the blue connector on the car.

just cut the connection wire up the red wire from the shark II with a male connector and chuck a female connector onto either the yellow/green striped wire or white/red striped wire like mentioned vis versa....

The antenna came in the mail a week ago but farkk has melbourne weather been bad... haven't even had an hour of sunny weather to be able to hop in my boot to install the damn thing without worrying if it'll start pouring down and water + electricity = bad!
Got a question... in all the articles ive seen on how to install this, they just connect up the antenna and the wires that come out the bottom. My package came with another huge wire that has 4 plug thingies? ill post a pic up

4 wires? go to where?
http://imageshack.us/m/15/2818/20110514230321.jpg
Looks like... you connect these two up and then the other two somehow plug into something

Wondering why the wire is so ****in long
aaronrein

pretty sure that wire is not necessary man.
the anntennas male end will connect into the female end which will be removed from your stock antenna..
the length provided off the shark II antenna should be enough without the extension...

What about the amplifier thing the other dude was talking about? Where you had to cut something. You're saying it's a straight plug

Looks like you purchased the optional extension cable which no one else really does. It is not needed unless you wanna rip out your interior and route the wire all the way to your headunit for a straight plug-in (if you don't wanna cut up the red wire). Your choice really - neater connection vs less labour.

no man youve gotta put a male plug on either wire you end up cutting out of the 2 striped ones from the original connector and connect it into the connection on the red wire!
this im pretty sure is whaats know as the amp wire..

Just an update guys, i just installed the shark antenna. Signal strength is as good as before. I tried with and without amplifier cable, if anything it is WORSE with amplifier cable? so its just running with the one single cable connected and works fine.
I recommend this for all people thinking of getting rid of their stupid integra 3m tall antenna. Pretty easy install in hindsight
