So, annoying story goes...

Did a fluid change and coolant change, and only to find my car overheating. However i found that driving with the heater on full blast maintained a slightly higher than normal but still healthy tempreture. otherwise id have to stop and sit there for 10-15 minutes for it to cool. (only hda to drive around like this twice)

having retraced my steps i figured out that i didnt bleed the radiator system properly so i re did the coolant stuff - obviously hoping to fix the problem.
took out coolant, put it back in, bled it, let it run in, fan kicks in etc.

No leaks from radiator or pipes or anything, water pump is only 2 years or so old.'
head gasket is not cold

I only found out that this made it worse(did it when engine was warm). It would over heat faster from cold and and it was hotter than before with the heater on full blast.

I did some trouble shooting and found out that -

The top radiator pipe would get super hot, but the bottom one wouldnt get hot at all (still warm but still coldish).

If i drain the radiator from the bottom it wouldnt be hot just luke warm after 10-15 minutes of cooling from a high temp.

I tried having it heat up slightly and then bleeding it but it would just be steam(from coolant) and sometimes air (based on the sound) and eventually into a steady flow of coolant.(engine sitll hot/warm)

thinking i had fixed it i was wrong, same problem, nothing changed.

-
Can someone please tell me what i did wrong and how to fix it?

Going to try to bleed it again first thing in the morning when its dead cold.

Happy to donate $10 to whoever me the right info to fix it:(
very displeased about this...

DIY gone all wrong.

You need to bleed all air from the system and top it up.

Try replacing Thermostat? Bleed the system again?

The top radiator pipe would get super hot, but the bottom one wouldnt get hot at all (still warm but still coldish).

Thermostat might be stuck closed.. but yeh keep bleeding it first.. squeezing the hoses helps.

Ffs

Open bonnet
Take off radiator cap. Top up fluid if need be
Jump in the car and slide the temp to HOT
Now start the car and let it idle for a good 15-20 mins , until the radiator fan has come on TWICE. note as the fan comes on the coolant level will drop so top it up

After the fan has been on twice and you have topped up the level turn the engine off grab a rag and reapply the radiator cap. Top up the radiator overflow if its low

That should be all good.

Thanks ben.

Ill give it another shot.

Diy is destroying my moral!
Was on the verge of trying a new thermostat.

You said fan on twice. I assume it will come on. Stop. And on again?

I did that at one stage but only waited till it came on once. (Abt 15 minutes)

Hoow does the fan cme on twice?

Came oon once and never turned off even after around 40 minutes..

When I top it up it bubbles and spits back at me. Had around 1.5 litres of coolant on my drive way by the end of it

...problem not solved=(

sounds like thermostat to me.

thermostat is only like 60 bux or someshit. get it changed and bleed it again.

it's like 20 bucks from super cheap.

If the car is overheating the fan will not cycle on and off. It will come on and stay on because the coolant temperature doesn't drop back below the cutoff.

Its $36 from super cheap, but thanks.

Fixed it - was the thermostat,

Took the old one out to test it in boiling water to see it not open!
