so i went to vicroads to notify them that i had a new engine (B18C2 in my Gli)
was going all good, they checked the car, i signed.... then BAM! another vicroads inspector came and over hears that i got a new motor and randomly makes a call, then tells me my motor is from a typeR and it cant be swapped unless i got a engineering cert then walks off.
i know many people that have transferred the motor over to there chassis with no engineering cert, guess it was all luck that i got barred.
so my questions are:
1. since i've asked once before does vicroads put it on record that i;ve tried transferring? cause i wanna go to a different one and try to transfer again.
2. what do i need for an engineer cert?
i've got a Type R brake setup on the car, anything else?
thank you

Pay engineer 400 and do exactly what they want. Pay another 400 for them to sign off on it. Feel safe in the knowledge that the police can't defect you for having a lack of engineering papers. Listen to the engineer, not people who haven't done it. He signs off - they don't.
Even if Vic roads let it through, you can still be defected without the certificate and mod plate.

i guess there has been a vast amount of people recently getting their swaps registered.. i reckon they will add this to their checklist from now on...
it just gets worse and worse

Engineering check will cover exhaust volume, braking efficiency, ride height (with passengers), engine mounting setup just to name a few things. It's not a cheap process, but certainly a process best done correctly as Setanta said above.

in the long run it would be best to get a engineering certificate. but it wont hurt to give it another go to register the car :)

hey guys, funny thing is the b18c2 was registered to a civic before it got put into mine. and they didn't need a engineering cert.
exhaust volume, ride height, engine mounts are all stock so i should pass fine.
i'm just afraid they gonna put me on record and dick me when while i'm driving to and from work (only drive the car 3-4times a week) while i'm still saving up for the cert :( just looks like my paint job is gonna have to wait :(

your ment to have a engineers, because it didnt come out factory 1.8
some people just get lucky and pass.
Your best telling them you pulled the motor out of the old civic (previously motor registered too) and put it in this shell, because it was in better condition.

Just get it done properly through the right channels, and certainly before your paint job. Then you won't get F'd by authorities and post up about how you've been defected even though you managed to 'register' the engine to your car illegally by taking advantage of an inconsistent system run by insufficiently trained people.
The law is there for a good reason so I'd suggest you stop trying to slip it past them mate. The swap should be checked to make sure it was done properly for the safety of every driver on the road...
Also make sure your insurance company (if you have insurance) knows about it. They at least will run a fine comb over your car if there's a claim to be made and you won't manage to get away with it then.

For an engineers you are meant to have at minimum, the same quality suspension and brakes as the car the engine is from I believe. They do a brake fade test, ride height and exhaust emissions/noise. It's easier than other cars because the engine mounts are identical. In saying that my eg breeze has a b18c7 and is engineered with stock brakes so it's just up to the engineer and what he is willing to sign off on.

lol mango noob.
800$ for eng cert.
If you got b18c2 then all your stuff needs to be dc2 vtir or equivalent.
The reason why the previous guy had to done and you cant its cause you had a bad day. =P
Some people do it without a cert and some do. Its just your luck
