I got my aftermarket high flow axle back muffler from a member of the forums last saturday, and my mates brother who is a mechanic said he will be able to put it on for me. It's been a week and i'm starting to loose my patience haha I was wondering how I would be able to mount it myself? I gave it a go the other day with some WD40 and a ratchet, the bolts would NOT budge. and theres a spring where the washer would usually be? Don't know if that effects anything..

So whats the possibility of me being able to install it myself? its just the rear muffler nothing big. If any of you know of any good DIY's or how to do it it would be greatly appreciated

thanks :D

Those bolts are welded in place for some reason, they should fit though the stock dpipes holes though as it came off another ek hatch

It's really easy aslong as its got the correct piping/hangers on it already 15 min job

2 rubber mounts to hold the hangers on pretty straight forward -
2 long ass screws that connects the axleback/piping to the bpipe - ratchet with socket and common sense

Whatever way the stock muffler comes of is basically the same way the new muffler goes in, last but not least make sure the tip isn't rubbing against your bumper once it's fitted on or else its going to slowly burn it off or turn it black and look shit

yeah I realized it would be, it's just the bolts connecting the muffler to the bpipe were a BITCH to get off, I couldn't even do it with a rachet, I'll see if I can get a ratchet gun though

Yeah if it hasn't been off in awhile it will be a solid **** to take off, put it on stands so you can get in a good spot and WD40 the bolt and try a breaker bar or something

After you take it off once the next time you do it will be a breeze :)

Yeah i might give that a go, except dont i need some sort of muffler puddy to put on the gasket to prevent leaks?

think its called gasket seal. You apply a bit between the joins and tighten the bolts up. Had my exhaust done 3 weeks ago or 4 and they put gasket and gasket seal which is red and you can practically see it near the cat.

As Kyzz mentioned, does he need the gasket seal incase of any leaks ?

Try taking it off by yourself man. Just put a bit of elbow grease into it. As for the gasket, see if the old ones still alright, if not then get some gasket seal, or better yet a brand new gasket, which cos like feck all

Ive changed axlebacks 100 times and ive never used gaskets or any kind of sealant bro. The bolts are pretty easy to take off, just get into a good position with some leverage and pull that mofo, there isn't any other way. Careful the car don't fall on you. All you need is a socket set, it's easier with 2 people, 1 to hold the end + do hangers, one to do the bolts. You might have to adjust your bpipe by moving some of the hangers down that way to get your muffler to sit where you want it. Also if you find the axleback piping hits the chassis (or close to), keep playing around with all different possible hooks you have cos it'll rattle if you leave it. You are taking off the rear right wheel and not just crawling under the car right? From spot i do it with, you gotta be weak as **** if you can't undo the bolts. If someone like me can do it, you should be able to :P

Hahahahhahaha oh trust me I'm not weak as phuk, bee weights training 4 times a week for the past 2 years, so it should be easy. Nah I ucmu tried by taking the rear wheel off r even jacking the car up. Just got on my back and tried to undo it, not much leverage with the ratchet though. The muffler came with a gasket so I'll give it another go tomorrow arvo

Just sit on the right side of car, legs facing in under the car where the wheel was, go around the suspension arm shit and pull out as hard as you can with a spanner

Ok, one of the problems with after market axle back is that they dont require a donut gasket, but the stock B-pipe has a donut gasket, so this does cause some sorts of trouble, unless the axle back as a flange that was designed for a donut gasket, than u will have leaks if no seals are used, or some sort of a gasket, as the flange design is different to OEM flange

Ive replaced my whole cat back, so i can tell you its easy, but take ur time doing it, u will learn heaps!

Most places would do it on a hoist, i done it on the floor!

1st step - jack up the RHS rear
2. Remove RHS rear wheel (to access the bolts)
3.Get a breaker bar, and undo the 2 spring tensioned bolts
4.remove hangers (best way to do it, is spray WD40 into the hangers, an get a screw driver to wedge them out)
5. Remove it
6. Reverse installation

Simply enough :D

well yous probably couldnt understand what i said before considering i was on my iphone, but how the hell would i put the spring tensioned bolts back on?

^just... screw them back on with a socket set? lol i dunno what the donut gasket shit is about, all my axlebacks have hugged over the stock bpipes flange and have no chance of leaking

Heat it up ;) exhaust bolts r tough n rust n the metals contract n that as it isnt always the same temp..
