hey guys,

friend with em1 has 3k to spend on his car.

1. looking at rebuild (motor has done 240xxx kms but still going strong) with performance parts.
2. performance mods (IHE etc)
3. save a bit more for engine transplant.

which of the above do you guys recommend? looking for bang for your buck power.

cheers

1 or 2
performance mods wont be that good of an idea as the engine has high kms
b18 swap would be sweet but thats just my opinion :D

my D15b7 has done over 320k kms - still drives the same as it did wen we bought it at 150k kms

kms means nothing

i would do 1 + 2
its already a b16a2 - all you need is a freshen up and some power mods and you will be damn happy

If the engine is 'still going strong' and be appropriately looked after, then why would you rebuild it?

HD clutch + lightweight flywheel.
Cold air intake.
Full exhaust (header, high-flow cat and cat-back).
ECU + tune.

There's your $3g and IMO it's the best way to spend it :)

engine transplant....b16a even modded in an em1 is a nugget. with 3k you can get a b18c2 maybe even B18CR without gearbox just use your b16a box

+ 2 to that. option 1 and 3 are not so practical.

3k? 1.5k on turbo kit, $600 on Hondata, the rest on 2.5in free flow exhaust and tuning.

if your after power then look around for a c7 or c2, otherwise go boost. Sell the current setup, and ull have some extra cash

Why then not consider a B20VTEC? $500 for a block, use OEM mounts, the head is pretty much ready to be tuned (unlike my OBD0 B16A), conversion kit, belt, pump, fluids, new header.

It could be done.

thanks for the replies.

he's still deciding.

B20VTEC...torque..mMmM :)

b16 has no power :( well not enough haha

by OEM mounts do you mean B20 or B16?

I mean you can use your OEM ones. Don't need new ones for the B20 block. New mounts usually cost $400-500 for aftermarket.

Hope you never need genuine new EF8 mounts. I bought the last set in Japan for $700+.

<sigh> maybe hindsight is a b!tch but I just wanted the OEM comfort because from what I read I think all of the aftermarket ones are polyurethane for OEM replacements and I know that wouldn't be a comfy as an OEM rubber-compound mount.

oem with ES inserts is a good compromise

if he's keen I got some cheap turbo gear ;)

wouldn't spend anything on the b16 to be honest(unless you boost it), been there done that ended up with a bigger motor
