I'd get a corolla
should be able to get a newer model for the same amount of money as the others

Mid 90s corolla? Ive heard they're reliable. Im not sure about fuel efficient... my dad's '95 corolla csi only pulls like 350-400 a tank. Its nearing 300,000km though and engine strong as ****

Get an EK cxi or gli

Or

An EG si

Or

An ae101 corolla

Sent from my custard cannon like Peter North.

I would buy an EG Civic with service history, simply because I don't like Toyotas/Corollas, Mirages are feminine, and 323s are bland.

More objectively, the Corolla might actually be a better option, but I need to drive a car I like.

Actually, on that note, get a Nissan Pulsar. They're excellent cars.

i would say corolla. I used to have an 82 ke70 was a super fun car to drive and looked sikkkk, for its age motor was very strong. So they def have good reputation in my book.

But still...get a later model lols, like what trisdog said ae101

haha cool, everyones voting for a Corolla! Though I may be abit bias on that decision. AE101's are well within your price range.

Buy a CD5 Accord. Great value for comfort and economy.

AE82 corolla IMO. Great old car, beautiful transmission, very cheap/reliable.

ae82 are great little cars...i never liked the backside though.

My fave was the ae86 and ke70 with quad headlights. Oh and the TE71 !

Anyone seen a ae101 in aus with 2 doors? One thing that discourages me to get the ae101 is its fat ass, very ugly. :(
How much fuel does ae101 eat?
I like the ae93 design though but they are to old.

how economical is CD5 Accord?

How much is MX5 to insure?

Decided between the corolla and civic.
SI would use more fuel than GL/GLI?

Just looked at a review - http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring/reviews/car-reviews/toyota/corolla-cs.htm

Fuel isn't what I expected

Best recorded during testing 9.0 L/100km
Worst recorded during testing 10.7 L/100km
Average on test 9.7 L/100km

My first car was an AE82 carbed 4 door and I'd regularly pull upwards of 500 a tank. I'd thrash the living hell out of that car aswell, and it just kept going and going. You should be able to pick up a cheap twin cam for next to nothing, the 4AGE small ports were fun and reliable. As others have mentioned, EK1's are also a candidate, mine pulls 450+ km stop start driving and giving it the boot. That's with a short ram too.

Depends what sort of car you'd like, most small cars under 2.0L won't be that thirsty, most shitty fuel consumption comes from the driver and cheap fix items.
