Hey guys just wondering, if you were to replace the vtir gear synchros with type r synchros and final drive will the ratios be identical to a type r box?
Just curious to find out if it is cheaper to do this, or purchase a type r box and swap it in, thanks :)

You'll just have a VTiR box with a 4.7FD.. Why not go further with a 4.9FD? (depends on your driving and project)
Also your 2nd and 3rd gears are much longer to a Type R.

Buy an ITR box IMO. All short ratio plus LSD.

WOTAM. As above, go ITR box and save stuffing around changing all the internals.

thanks for the quick replies guys, i guess its not really worth the trouble changing the internals, but it seems quite hard to source a itr box here in melbourne..
also roughly how much would one go for? excuse the noob questions

It is worth while still to do one yourself.
LSD is about $400-450
VTIR box (B16 or B18) is like 700-800.
ABout $250 for labour to put the box together.

A decent ITR lsd is about $1500

If you use the b16a box you will need a final drive from the ITR box. The B18 box is longer, but you don't need to change the final drive.

Use the b16 box if your staying NA, go the b18 if your boosting it.

Going to stay n/a and currently have a b18 vtir box, i guess its actually more worthwile to purchase a b16 box + LSD then play around with the gearing in the b18 right? thanks for your input

Not much folks know how to fit gearboxs so allow that $600 labour charge to fit gearbox. Your rough quote is pretty much spot on anyway

ITR gearbox have stronger internals, trust me its a pieace of mind.

ITR ratios are shorter than B16, well its marginal, its like a .08 of a second difference when you have both of the cars side by side with equal mods.

I say go ITR gearbox, I have on and I love it. Folks with I/H/E VTiR Gearbox that are still on 2nd gear, I'm already on my way going to 4th gear, its a massive difference on user acceleration ;)
