Can someone here tell me why Honda markets the Euro as a sports sedan?

I always thought of it as a family car.

It has a sporty K24 engine that's why :) and its 0-100 isn't that bad either (mid 7's)

I think its because its sleek and sporty looking, and compared to the rest of the range,it is like a sports car...

Thats not saying much

CU2... lets see.. it's not a sports car at all. It's built for europeans as an executive sedan.
It's 1.6 tons using a 2.4 ltr N/A engine.

Considering the CL9 is 1.4 tons using the same engine.. Go figure.

The suspension is way firmer in the Euro compared to most other cars.

I actually hated it when I first bought mine (coming from a Statesman), but I got used to it eventually.

Some people try to say that the Euro is a "luxury car", but really, it's almost the complete opposite...

it's a softcore sport car... with tiny sway bars, some body roll, small brakes.. would require a lot of $$$$$ to make it a proper track toy.

but it's probably the best in its segment and price bracket, and good value for its standard equipment for a premium Japanese brand.

there are other brands with more features / equipments.. i35, Kizashi, etc...

How does the CU2 compared with likes of the bigger Ford G6E and Aurion Presara quality wise? I was looking at these two when I purchased my CU2.

The i45 I know has good reviews but i'd still prefer a Honda over a Hyundai and the Kizashi isn't very sucessful here are they, Suzuki's having a hard time selling them.

Kia optima turbo. End of story.

I think the Euro is superior to both the Falcon and Aurion quality wise.

Me too, and the modding potential :D, doesn't even need to be a CL7 haha

Fredoops

Cu2' header is welded onto the block, so only exhaust mod is a catback, which sucks

MingZai

Yeah thats why the CL9 > CU2 in terms of power, sporty look and modding potential.

a prime example of the unleashed potential, but in K20A Euro R base model :p

Used to be that way but current models of cars from other manufacturers are stiffer or have better handling than the Euro. The Commodore Omega series II for example feels plasticky but has more power, handles better stock, has better weight distribution, is larger but doesn't feel boaty and seats 5 adults comfortably with excess leg room. The Euro was great 7 years ago but now the competition has caught up and overtaken it. Of course once you mod it, the Euro still brings smiles to my face.

Yeah thats why when you compare cars gotta compare it with the competition from its time frame :p

The Euro does NOT compete with the Commodore, the Falcon and Aurion do.

Euro fights with the Mazda6,VW Jetta and Passat, top Camry,Hyundai I45,Kia Optima,Suzuki Kizashi, and Subaru Legacy ,with a few others as well...:D

MingZai

Also the BMW 323I :)

EDIT: It does compete with the Aurion 4 Cylinder models as the engines are pumping out pretty much the same torque and HP.
ACV40 2.4 L 2AZ-FE inline-four (petrol) 127 kW (170 hp) 224 N·m (165 lb·ft) 5-speed U250E automatic
AHV40 2.4 L 2AZ-FXE inline-four (hybrid petrol) 140 kW (190 hp) 1-speed P311 CVT

It depends on the person shopping for the car. Many of us shop based on the amount of money we are willing to spend. So if your budget ranges from $30,000 to 40,000, the Commodore, Falcon and Aurion fall into the list of cars that one could get instead of the Euro.

So if I had $35,000 to spend on a new car, I'd certainly consider the Commodore and Aurion as well!

Aurion is nice car.Exept it doesn't handle too well.

G6 Turbo > anything in a $50k or less category.

awesome 6 speed auto. 4litre engine. with 270kw and 550nm of torque, and heaps of modding potential
stock 1/4mile is 13.5 basic mods ur in the mid 12's

Yeah, and I really dislike the centre console which lights up bright at night. The Series II VE commodore is nice. I can certainly say that it hands better than a stock CL9 Euro, has more power (190kW) and for those who drive auto, gives you a 6-speed with sports mode too! It also has a touch screen interface, mp3 playback through USB stick and build in bluetooth which does A2DP so you can stream mp3s straight from your iphone/ipad.

But..... when I'm in a not so nice mood from work (which has been crazy), then I take the Euro out for the day instead which always makes me happy. Need to service it now though.

bear in mind with aurion, camry, falcodore..

after >8yrs of use, i doubt you can fetch >$10k when selling them, although they're around >$35k when new.

these cars just depreciate very quickly cos there are lots and lots of fleet buyers out there for these cars.

honda / subaru on the other hands have the least fleet buyers (according to the sales managers).

however, it depends on where you were brought up.. some people swear by til death do us part for Holden / Ford... some just never look at them at all. so buy one that tickles your fancy :p

got a 99 falcon in the family. just under 150k's on the clock, we are 2nd owner, and touch wood not one thing has gone wrong with it.

serviced every 15,000kms. no service is expensive aswell. as reliable as my sisters corrolla

Yeah the Aurion interior is awful, especially the center console. Engine is decent, but everything else about the car dynamics is pretty poor. Aurion styling (and infact Toyota styling in general these days) is lacking and bland, bland, bland. The Aurion Sportivo is like your granddad wearing shorts and birkenstocks, with a backwards baseball cap.

The engine from the Aurion is used in the Lotus Evora.

Doesn't need to be 8 years, I think their resale value drops under $10k after just 5 years!

Modded = sports sedan. Unmodded = sporty drive.

The biggest diffirence is that the medium cars are all 4 cylinders with good resale values, whereas the Aurion,Commodore, and Falcon are all 6 cylinders, with pathetic resale, even after 1 year.

it also depends on the potential costs of repair when the warranty is out. it's one of the reasons many $100k BMW, Merc and Co; they loose 60%-90% of the value after 5-8 yrs.

a gearbox problem on a $20k 9 yrs old BMW X5 could make a hole in your pocket by $$,$$$.

very true words spoken............

heres one example of honda being left behind 'on the track'.

a sad phase for honda lovers like myself.

back on topic. Take a stock Euro to the track or drive it hard on twisties and u'll understand why it's a sports sedan.

............

these were the results of a recent dyno day, there was a FN2R that had a run. i think increasing the power on a K20A / K24A is not an easy job, however with turbo engines an ecu flash tune costing between $700-$1600 for stage 1 can bump up the power up by 10%-30%. a Mk6 GTI with a $900 Liverpool exhaust downpipe (incl 200 cell cat) and $1100 aggressive GIAC ecu flash tune can do 170kw atw.

yeah that's right.. honda hasn't been producing any real performance car for the Aust market lately... they made FD2R which they don't sell here.. :p

there is only 1 genuine FD2R in Top One - Sydney (Japan import) and another one is Gold Coast (UK import)

very poor management............it proves the market is there for the taking but Honda hasn't done anything to get into it.

CRZ........what a JOKE!!
