Looks like the time has come to get the axe out and give the aussie car market a good kick along.

Savings of up to $6259 as Honda Australia cuts most model prices.

This will effect everyone that owns a honda now in lower resale values across every single model.

It's not going to affect the resale of your car or mine. It might convince me to splurge on a new Honda though. The appreciation of the OZ dollar had to have an affect at some stage. Honda's competitors are reducing prices. Honda was loosing sales. What could it do? Continue to profiteer to the point of making no profit?

As far as keeping existing owners happy,Honda have done a shocking thing,as I thought I negotiated a BRILLIANT deal on a brilliant car,but after 2 price drops in a year,I now realise I could buy the identical car today for less ...and this has never happened to me before.
Resale is important, and may send me back to VW next time around...

You are living in the past man. I bet you were peeved when that TV you bought last year is now $500 cheaper too. Honda is about NEW car sales - not making sure existing owners are happy with the price they paid.

Can't really see this having any impact on the much more older and more in-demand cars lol

Lexus and BMW cares, its well known Lexus considers resale of existing customer cars when releasing their new models.

And IIRC BMW has a guaranteed trade-in value if you finance with them and they purposely make facelifts near damn invisible to ensure value of existing owner cars.

It's about customer sanctification, I don't care if the car is the best in the world, if the dealer or manufacturer decides to screw me over post sales, no chance in hell im going back to them.

Anthony,

When we bought our car the rrp driveaway price was 40000 without any accessories. I bought mine in end of march last year with 5yrs warranty and honda rear sensors, bought it for 34k driveaway in sydney, the contract shows got savings of just over 7k...that time we got a good price..

now i think best can get for standard auto is 30k driveaway?

however i can't see they reduce price for civic...

I dont think you could really negotiate on these prices,I paid $34500,which is basically the NEW special price.

I also then paid for the reverse sensors.

I understand Honda has to do domething,as last month their sales position fell to no 11,but maybee they should have added more features at NO cost ???

Antony, I think that's a bit unreasonable.. like adding features with no cost? That's a bit ridiculous even for Honda. The most they will do is maybe chuck in a few freebies at most but adding more features at no cost is a bit over the top. They already have their Luxury models and sports model to help their customers save money. Try having a "luxury" BMW 323i or something like that, not going to happen.

No,lots of manufacturers add extra features in,to make their cars better value,eg Mazda, without resorting to cutting their prices.

What a joke. In your crazy world Honda should increase the price of the Euro just after you purchased it. That way you can tell all your friends what a bargain you got! They can't win with customers like you - can they?

YOu can't always win with got cheap price, same in technology world.. I paid similar price as Anthony, but just think about other few here such as Buddah i remember he got his euro in late 08 or early 09(buddah you can confirm that)and he paid 38k something driveaway for the same base model auto with just matt i guess. I am sure most people in this forum bought their car in late 08 till late 09 paid between 36-39k driveaway for base model euro as dealers were not able to reduce anything below.. Compare with him when i bought my car last year end of March i thought i saved better than them. Remember guys when i bought the car it was just 2months after it was built from japan, so it was a fresh car. Now people can get it cheaper may be 31k driveaway without any accessories. but those cars are mostly built in 2010, which is more than 6months old may be more.... mainthing is we enjoyed the car(eventhought my car is with very little milage as its a weekend car)..

Who knows when honda release new model and they may increase the price later.. Now i look for a civic, however dealers don't want to reduce more than 3k off the rrp which is 28k driveaway. Some reason honda didn't cut down price for civic and may be better to wait for civic runout or i better look for corolla or mazda3..

I would say good luck to people buying new car, try the best to get as much as bargain. Don't fall with salesguys BS telling impossible etc etc. If dealer doesn't want to give your price, just simply walk away....

But BMW are on run out mode, the 3 series are on the way out and not selling with a new model due. See the huge discounts going on now, as Mercedes Benz have just release a update C Class with 2000 new parts and a E Class dash.

Retail sales are down nationwide. Even Gen-Y are starting to save for a future instead of living like there's no tomorrow.

Adding some extra features works as a point of difference when a market is healthy and sales are doing alright. But when not, no manner of trinkets will convince a spending-shy consumer to part with money or commit to a big loan. That's when discounting keeps the cashflow going for businesses.

BTW, if you're a Gen-Y who hasn't started saving yet: There is a tomorrow and it lasts a long time!
