There was a click noise present in the column of my eg civic hatch for sometime and once i had some time to spare, i removed all the dust boots and covers and listened in. The noise is quite wide spread through out the column, i suspected a uni. The click is heard with car on or off and stationary. Moving the wheel left to right with slight forced rapidly brings a click which can be heard 80% in the vehicle. These are my findings.

The inner shaft assembly is a bit stubborn upon removal, the bearing has no clearance once placed in the column housing. The inner shaft is comprised of 2 shafts, one pressed over the other, for in the case heavy forward collision, the shaft will collapse into each other reducing damage to the driver. By welding it in my frustration period, i removed this particular feature but gained steering tranquility.

Hope this helps some other unfortunate honda-er.
