Hi everyone, i want to know is there any different between DC2 Vti-R and DC2R valve springs? Are they both using dual-layered spring? If I install this spoon camshaft (http://www.icbmotorsport.com/spraca.html) to my DC2 Vti-R, do i need to change valve springs? Could you guys explain in more details? Thank you very much for helping me:D

I'm no expert but was under the impression that the Type R ones are a tougher dual layer and the VTi-R's are single (correct me if I'm wrong).

Generally when you do camshafts upgrades it's considered a good idea to upgrade your valvetrain (springs and retainers) and your cam gears as well so you can do more with the timing/tuning.

I'd recommend doing the full head build in one go. Mill it a bit to bump up the compression, do shafts/gears, springs/retainers, some port work + match manifolds, an angle grind and maybe even some combustion chamber work.

But once you pop open the head things get expensive. Great fun though :D

VTi-R has dual springs on the intake side and single on the exhaust side.

DC2R has dual on both.

Intake springs from the VTi-R are exactly the same as the exhaust ones on DC2R, and DC2R's dual intakes are up-rated.

I've got DC2R valvesprings with buddyclub cams in my VTi-R, let me tell you they are tappy little things (being stiffer and all) haha.

can i just install the spoon camshaft for the VTI-R without install the exhaust dual spring? :D

depends on how high the power peaks with those cams. mine peaks at 8300RPM with the buddyclub spec III's which is right on the limit for the B18C2 so I upped the valve springs to some used ITR B18C ones as a cheap and effective upgrade, as they are safe to 9000RPM.

most likely the spoon ones would be the same if not a higher power band. I would recommend some higher rated valve springs even just for your piece of mind. the last thing you'd want is valve float at 8500RPM.

hope this post was helpful :)

how much will it cost for changing the valve springs and install the spoon cam?? if i upgraded the valve springs and installed the spoon cam, will it affect my engine's life (more afford to the engine and esay to damage)? :)

I'm not sure how much it would cost because it will vary heaps depending on where you go. sorry :(

it shouldn't shorten the life of your engine man, street cams are pretty friendly.

2 things could happen if the valve springs can't handle the increased power peak.

1) they wear out faster and eventually become weak and valve(s) won't close causing a misfire. open the heads again to upgrade the springs.
2) the spring breaks and you have a loose piece of metal that will ruin your heads.

i would upgrade them.

now im using spoon ecu, do i need to tune it after i installed the camshaft and the dual springs? thanks:)

you will need a tune as the ECU can't auto map itself to adjust to things like cams etc. I didn't know spoon made ECUs thats awesome :)

You can run cams on the stock springs with no issues as long as you do not exceed the stck rev limit

^ this is true also. however you may not be able to reach peak power with the stock rev limit if the cams peak above 8300RPM.
