Gents,
My Gearbox 3rd gear Syncro is gone along with my Clutch. I have a Del Sol With B16A2 and a budget of $3000, any suggestions on what to do. any and all appriciated!
Ie: Recondition Gearbox, add LSD, Excedy Heavy Duty Clutch?
Source a B18C Gearbox?

LSD- 1000
Bearing/seals - 100-200 (pending what you want change)
3rd gear synro/hub/sleeve - $350
Clutch kit - budget 500
On top of that is labour so i guess you can get away with some change out of 3k. If you have few penny left try upgrading the FD to a 4.9.
Whats the purpose of the car? If its daily just replace the syncros and clutch or maybe recondition the box. You'll have leftover money.
Track or spirited drives? Get a type r s80 gearbox 4.7fd lsd, HD clutch and maybe lightened flywheel and you'll be cheering, but this may exceed your 3k limit.

I agree with duzy.
If it's just a daily and you're happy with it then reco the box. Fix the synchros, change the input shaft bearing while you're at it, give it all a clean inside, new clutch etc.
Alternatively get an ITR S80 GBox with OEM LSD and a 4.7FD which will make your car a bit quicker to accelerate.
Also consider a lightweight flywheel while you're in there. Exedy HD clutch will do the trick.

Thanks guys
Yes the car will be daily driven. But I would also like it to perform when I'm in the mood
Maybe run it down eastern creek here and there only with a street setup. (not gonna strip interior or anything)
I'm also contemplating buying the b18c conversion on here for 4.7 but that's dwfenatly gonna stretch my budget especially if something goes wrong after the conversion that needs to be fixed
In terms of what i want though i think the safest way is to recon and upgrade my box. I'm just worried with the money I'm spending the other things I could have had.
Do you guys think a del sol with b16a2 simota cai xforce full 2/1/4 exsaust chrome ecu tuned. With stAndard GB recond with LSD and heavy duty clutch sounds like a decent car for daily drive and alittle fun here and there

To the above post ^^ the del sol with a HD clutch is gonna be quite fun as I have an exceedy hd in my b16 ATM feels great!
But either way you go a Honda is always gonna be fun and perform well (most of the time)
Go with what best suits you mate either getting a new box with LSD & a better clutch or recon your box now and get some warranty is good to! In the end all depends on your budget bro

Ask for condition, make sure it doesnt crunch gears or have any bearing noise
Other than that, ek9 box will be fine

Good to hear the box is working a treat.
Assazian - If you can find a ITR box in good condition go for that, if not get your rebuilt at least you know it'll run fine for the next few years.

Last time I was looking for a gearbox TODA AU was selling me a complete DC2R gearbox with all new internals and syncros for $1,800 - $2,000. Thats a great price, considering you have gearboxs like the S80 going around for $1,300 $1,500.
Or PM Slaz I remember him having a 4.9FD DC2R gearbox for $1,800. He might still have the standard ITR gearbox aswell/
Or PM Mfactory dude he can also build a brand new gearbox for a good price too.
Good luck and stay away from B16A gearboxs that are $1,000used. not worth the money for a 15year old thing.

^^ Good advice.
Alternatively, brand new OEM DC2R box can be had new from Japan for ~$2k. Atleast you'll have piece of mind that it's gonna be 100% perfect.

Gents
I picked up a brand new jdm itr box with lsd and 4.7 final drive and a excedy sports organic clutch.
Got this installed and the mechanic also had me replace the 4 driveshaft boots.
All up this cost me 3200 plus i still have mt oem box with a bad 3rd syncro that is the only issue with it. How much would you say this box is worth?
Also im at the beggining of a 500 km wear in period and when i turn and/or brake the steering wheel shakes alittlebit and you can feel something rattling in the cv joint area, is this a normal thing to come accross when you are driving a brand new clutch and gearbox?
Im alittle conserned because the installer did not give me any warranty as they were (race parts) and they only give garantees on oem replacement products.
Your thoughts guys?
