i believe sumbody told me that spoon engines need to be rebuilt quiet often, coz the daym engines rev up to 15000 rpms :|, oh and my spoon civic on gt3 revs up to 17000 rpms :P

i'm guessing more than $15K for sure :p

Ive seen spoon ITR clusters go upto 13k, so i assume that or around there..

the 16000 RPM Spoon CTR on gt3 is just crazy! lol

Sorry but I call BS on these Spoon engines (available to the public) reving that high.

I always thought it was a ricer term thrown around from Fast and Furious
i know spoon work cars and have their own *SPOON EG6/EK9* etc.. but i never knew they made them comercially?

Guys a Spoon engine (available to the pubilc) is just an ITR engine (they build other B series too) that has had the bottom end fully rebuilt and fully balanced. The last I heard they don't even put in the valve train or cams by Spoon. Possibly a Spoon HG thrown in.

Spoon pistons = OEM that have been further balanced
The same for the rest of their bottom end internals... OEM but virtually perfectly balanced inhouse.

Now how the heck are you going to rev an engine into the 14 and 16 thousand RPM with the amount of power that is being produced with one. To spin an engine into higher RPM you need balancing yes.... but you need HP too.

There is no way in the world that they will rev that high.... and I'd estimate power being around 220 ps for what I would assume around $10- $12k AUS...

Power wise is it worth it? Maybe not...... reliability wise.... I could think of nothing better

my new set up should have me revving to 10ooo eeaasy

Spoon Engine is not actually that expensive and is sold in HK for racing eg. Macau GP. B16B Complete Engine (engine block only) for $30000HKD or around $5000AUD. Engine is good for around 250hp and is only good for racing. Engine does not include ECU (Spoon N1 ECU is over 1k+ AUD), gearbox ($13,000HKD or around $2500AUD with basic LSD I guess), clutch ($$$$)blah blah blah will cost u extra :D

Mugen is about the same price. If u want to import the block into Aus remember to add 30% duty, tax, GST and all kind of bullshit. :thumbdwn:

So you actually support the claims that they rev out that far?

I still stand by what I said and call BS!

You read me wrong, my friend. I totally agree with you.
I too call B/S.
The rpm ranges & the power figures claimed are optomistic to say the least.
I think these guys might believe in Santa too though. :D

Just out of curiosity what kind of work is being done to allow it to rev to 10K????

As for the spoon engines 10-11k rev range sound about right from what i've read as well.

JDM.Power
19-02-2005, 10:25 AM
that's only for the b18c.10k only or just over..but the b16a is more than 11k i think around 12 or 13k for the b16a..but 10k is enough...unless you're gonna go driving on track's everyweekend ...go for the b16a but il say the b18c is the one to go for :)

10k on the turbo engine also...feel sorry for the turbo not the engine..unless you're setup is turbo kick's in first from 3-6k then v-tec take's the rest :)
i doubt it you're setup will get the 10k range

There is no point to reving an engine out that far if it is not making any additional power!

Spoon engines will aways rev to 10 & 13k in some people's minds...
But, that's about as real as it gets...

I made the mistake of thinking it was BS.

HOWEVER, for the Super Taikyu (sp?) endurance races... these things run on about 13:1 comp ratio or so and require 116RON octane fuel.....

There's a few locally build engines that rev to 13,000 - or, just buy a US drag All Motor engine.... 15:1 comp and 15,000rpm - last a day if your lucky, but they win races

The official web site of the Super Taikyu series is here: http://www.so-net.ne.jp/s-taikyu/ (http://www.so-net.ne.jp/s-taikyu/)
Taikyu means endurance.
The series consists of 7 races of 400+km length at a variety of circuits.
The series is basically N1, as in stock car racing.

Anyone who cares to read the series regulations will know the rules are quite restrictive.
That is we’re talking N1 & it’s sub classes
Eg: Factory pistons & rods must be used. Only balancing is allowed. However they must not be balanced through any machining process.
No head porting is allowed, intake manifold must remain as std, throttle body diameter must remain std.
Std air box must be used, air filter is free, piping can be altered. & so the list goes on…
Anyone notice a trend here?
Kinda like Spoon sells what they race. Hmmm.
(N+ class has exceptions to above. Spoon do not compete in N+)

Sure, engines that rev to 11,500rpm & 12,000rpm can be built but they are very expensive.
In the context of this thread, regarding SPOON B18 engines that rev to 10k rpm is just nonsense.
As for 13K+, I call total Bullshit.
To think otherwise shows little or no understanding of engine dynamics & their physical limits.
Piston speed alone is enough for engine failure.

i heard it was up to 14K
vtec from 6 to 8K lol more than half its rev range is in vtec mode!!
