Underside of bonnet sound deadening

Has anyone removed the ugly grey sheepskin from under the bonnet? I'm not sure if i should do it or not.

I can't clean the area cos if it gets wet it doesnt dry for weeks! And it's ugly as fk

Worried about damaging paint of the bonnet from the heat produced by engine. Wouldn't mind hearing a bit more engine roar though :D

Opinions/experiences?

if you have not noticed alot of cars do not come with the sound deadner so it is not going to damage your paint, it really doesn not make a noticeable difference to the engine sound anyways.
