Integra turning off and on while driving

just a question,
got this problem while driving my 1996 honda integra GSI the engine turns its self off and on really quickly. just like if you turning the key off and on while driving. any ideas? taking it to the mechanic soon but would rather fix it myself. had the ignition switch replaced 6 months ago so i dont think its that

if its the main relay it would turn off straight away (as in ignition then off). correct me if im wrong dougie

-chek if alternator is making wining noise.
-chek if engine lights come on b4 it turns off.

engine light does not come on before it happens. the alternator is not making any noises just runs normally then turns off and then on. cant get to happen when its just idling. only happens when driving.

weird, what lights come up when the car turns off? are they the same lights as when you have your key turned to II?

no lights come on. it turns off and on really fast. had 4 people drive it including my mechanic and they are all stumped

try another switch.(ignition)

ignition switch is the only cause for that symptom that I know of.

Sometimes it can be intermittent depending on the condition of the main relay. With mine it would drive normally then after a while it would choke and stall, then fail to start for a little while. Re-soldered and all fixed.

My daughters Prelude did this. She had about 10 or more office keys all on her key ring, & the weight would open the contacts, particularly going around roundabouts, as the keys swung out.

Removed the excess keys, & problem stopped.

Has happened before on some cars with immobilisers. the key rings interfere with the immobiliser in the key and in the ignition barrel. but that doesn't sound like the problem
i dont believe its an alternator issue, due to the fact that the alternator generates power for the battery and once your battery is dead, your car is dead straight up.
i would check the fuel pump relay, or check the fuel pump itself. might be bad fuel or something thats gone through.

Hey dude, have you possibly checked the distributor? same sort of situation happened to a mate of mine, thought it was ecu/sensors etc but it ended up being the dizzy! he jus got it reconditioned and worked perfectly after that!

hahaha na having lots of keys annoys me. iv gone though and checked everything but couldnt work it out. its going to the mechanics tomorrow. thanks all for the input
