oil pressure by the looks of it.

oil pressure - the light will come on or blink if there is a problem with the oil pressure - indicative of either old/bad oil, the pressure sensor is dying or the oil pump is on the way out

Or a serious low oil level (although by the time this lights up due to low oil, it is too late, damage has been done).

Sometimes it comes on for a second or two at ignition then goes away?

most likely its a problem with the oil pressure sensor - i had the same thing

have it replaced and monitor it - if its not the sensor than the oil pump will most likely need replacing

Hmm.. is there any way I can find out for sure?

Is there some other symptoms that might be caused by a bad oil pressure sensor?

TheSaint

not really - i started with the cheapest option and worked my way up - replacing the sensor fixed the problem for me

these items are only designed to last so many hours/kms of use

Alright, am I looking for anything in particular to buy a new sensor?

goto mechanic - ask for oil pressure sensor replacement ... done

or ask for a general diagnostic - tell them the problem etc with the light

they may find other problems like a faulty oil pump etc

This is normal because when you leave the car off all the oil sinks down to the sump, when you start it it takes about 1-2 seconds to get up to normal oil pressure.

Its not the fact the oil is all in the sump its that the oil pump is no longer running to pump the oil. thats why the oil light is always on before cranking the ignition

it shouldnt stay on for more than a few seconds after start up - more than 5-10seconds and there may be a problem

So is it normal for it to be on for a second after ignition?

EDIT: Another dash light question up

I wish I could see it better. But a preliminary guess would be the check engine light (CEL). It would come on if the ecu detects a fault.

I don't think it is CEL...

The light between Fuel & Boot at the bottom right is CEL?
