Im not really sure what the problem is with my car at the moment.
Heres the jist of it
In early mornings for almost 3 months now - a full cold start the car has a screeching noise.
Now today - the screech has become louder. and Just then i drove it and if i push the car past 2.5K rpm the acceleration causes the car to screech.
Drop it in neutral and floor the gas pedal the screech is evident.

Went to the local servo and bought a silicon lubricant spray. Im under the impression that it is the belts near the power steering resevoir so i sprayed it. The noise went away
But only after 10 minutes the screech comes back.
Then i spray it again and its gone again for another 10 minutes depending on how i push the car.

My question is - Is it the belts? what belt is it? should i replace the whole pump or just the belt? the car at the moment is sitting on 156xxx kms but im not sure if the belts have been replaced before. i only bought it on 150xxxkms.

Help is greatly appreciated. Cheers

Agree with above. Loose belt. You sprayed it wih a silicon lubricant? Not a good idea me think.

Most likely need a new fan belt, part number: 7PK1760. open up the engine bay while its screeching, pour a bit of water over the fan belt.. if the screeching stops then you know it needs to be replaced! :)

This thing happened to me 2 months ago.

Using a lubricant is not a very good idea... In fact, it made even worst....

I finally get rid of the noise by wiping the belt dry. Here to do this:

Keep the engine running and carefully use a dry mop or unused towel to wipe the belt while the belt is running. Run it until the belt is clean (not moist)

The trick is not to let the towel get entangled.

I haven't got the noise ever since.

Check the belt tensioner. The triangle should point to the tall rectangle or to in between the tall and short rectangle. If it is in the short rectangle or beyond, then you need to replace the belt. It is the accessory fan belt and the part is a 7PK1760, which is a 7-rib 1760mm belt. You can use a 7PK1750 if you can't get the 7PK1760.

Aaronng - triangle is inbetween the tall and short rectangle, close to the short rectangle though.
taken the car to astoria. they said this problem issent very big. the belt and whatnot were showing signs of wear but not in the 'need to replace' zone but getting close to it. they asked how i drive this car and when i tell them i dont start the car for a week because i drive my daily around. and the car is left outdoors majority of the time and its BEEN ABSOLUTLEY FREEZING these days.. They said i only needed to lubricate it and i told them i did and exactly how i did it. Now they sprayed my can of silicon lubricant on and it wasnt the way i did it haha. I turned my car off then sprayed where they left the car idling and sprayed it for about 30 seconds. Now its gone away. havent noticed it yet. will find out tomrrow when my car starts.

will get a new fan belt eventually, hopefully in the next month or two, and looking into the lightweight pulley kit as well during doing this.
cheers guys
