Currently doing the d16y4 swap into my eg carby
Have converted it to efi and removed the pos d15b4
Got a complete y1 engine and need to swap some things over to the y4 to make it obd1.
the dizzy from the y1 doesn't bolt up to the y4? how can I do it
Also what other parts do I need to take off the y1 to the y4
all the help would be appreciated
Thanks

why not use the D16y1 - its a much much better engine

D16y4 swaps are a pain in the behind because they dont have many interchangeable parts and the wiring setup is wierd =/

Hey not using the y1 cause it ticks off it's head
What do you mean by wiring setup

'ticks off its head'? - have you adjusted the valve lash and checked the valvetrain?

the D16y4 is suppose to be 0bd-2 but it has a unique wiring harness / intake manifold / dizzy setup that makes it a total pain to install into other cars
and there is almost no interchangeable parts for it and on top of that it doesnt have vtec and produces less power than the D16y1

it would be easier and more beneficial for you to tune up the D16y1 (usdm D16z6) and put that in the car - its the second best D-series engine you can get

The higher the revs are the louder it ticks
I don't really car about engine wise just using it as a daily car

I've already changed over the intake, water pump, exhaust manifold but am stuck on the dizzy
The y1 dizzy doesn't match up on the y4 head. Can I use any d series sohc dizzy? Also gonna use the p28 ecu
Anything that I've forgotten to interchange?

you will have to change the dizzy and the P28 map wont work well for the Y4 as the map is setup for vtec - it will also throw a CEL because the wiring wont be right

also - which wiring harness did you use?

which dizzy would I need to change to and if I can't use the p28 properly which ecu do I need to run

Using wiring harness from the y1

no idea - y4 swaps are a pain - most people steer clear of them

do a search - there have been a few threads dealing with these issues over the last couple of months

ticking motor - get the valve lash adjusted and all externally rotating parts checked - ie fans, driveshafts, belts etc
could be a very simple fix - no reason to down-grade to a D16y4
