so i just put new shoes on my jazz. speedline 16s 205/50 all around. i used a hand wrench and tightened them as hard as i could with the oem lug nuts for now and also forced myself on the wrench just incase lol. would this be tight enough for the rims?

im pretty concerned if its not.. but i drove up and down the street and it seemed okay.. couldnt hear anything except for this 1 clunk when reversing only but i think it could have been the exhaust? not sure.

Uhh... i used to stand on the wrench to tighten lol, youll have problems getting the nuts off! its probably not TOO tight as to wreck the tread but its not gonna come out

In most cases it should be fine, you can over tighten it as well using hand not only using impact gun.
If you are that concern, you could get a torque wrench. Hand tighten will always be fine if done properly and it is the preferred method over impact gun especially if you have "weak" lug nuts.

okay thanks guys i think it should be fine then :)

btw do i need to get my wheels aligned now? is it important?

If the overall rolling diameter is the same or close to then no it's not important. Try driving on the freeway at 100ks. If you experience some bad shaking then go get balanced/aligned.

Use this website to calculate how much your rolling diameter has changed:

Don't stand on them to tighten. Just use hand and make sure they are tight. Theres no need to over tighten. Just remember you'll need to undo it again, especially if you have a flat and you need to get them off.

also out of interest did your original rims have conical shaped nuts or domed ones?

Was just going to say the same thing. Your nuts and wheel surfaces need to mate together properly so make sure you're using the right nut.

here is a thread talking about using the correct nut for your application:

rp7/wd40 or high temp grease is good to use on wheel studs

you think?!................

its something worth checking.

you should be using conical lug nuts for after market wheels.

Tightening torque is only about 120Nm. So don't overtighten the wheel nuts. As long as you use the right nuts for the rim, it will stay on. Stock nuts are acorn type with a curved surface. Some rims have a tapered surface and hence require a tapered nut instead.

oh phew, cos i put wd40 on one of the studs and then thought i shouldn't for the others just incase lol.

Oh yes ofcourse, they dont leave an oily film, and make getting em off later-on easier (imo)
but i meant like greasy stuffs.some ppl presume the thread needs grease LOL my frind did that xD

If you've got aluminium nuts, its good to use some anti seize.

heres some more pics i took today for fun :D

^ looks like negative camber? lolol

GU357

uhm since its a larger rim i would imagine it would be slights less than original PSI, so maybe 10-20 psi below the recommended amount of the stock wheels (the recommended amount should be on the drivers door panel)
im not to sure.
how wide r the rims 7"?

also is that a legit mugen badge? cos i bought one simular and it was made from plastic so i decided not to put it on cos it would just fade off.

looks good... thou plain black mags always looks smaller then they really are.... you should get that red line cut into the tyres, make it look bigger :)

my first jazz was that colour, i put white 15's on it, looked trick. infact i still see it driving round capalaba ... :)

you'll obviously need a wheel alignment once you lower it, and the king springs that are available are a good fit for stock shocks. they are only like 3/4inch lower then stock, but it's amazeing how much 15mm actually makes.

i run 36-38 psi @ the front, 32psi @ the back, cold.

the jazz runs 0 neg camber @ front, and lots of caster, so running a high pressure @ the front will increase turn in heaps. it runs a bit of neg camber @ the rear, so the lower pressure gives you a little more of a contact patch on the road, and a little more grip.

GU357: dude!...10-20 psi?...NO WAY!! low profile tyres = more psi...run them on 36 psi or 40...normal sized tyres like 205/65R15 should be 34 psi. mate the longer you run 10-20 psi you'll be wearing out the edges and the inner side wall. so pump them up.
lol..im a mechanic and i worked at kmart tyre and auto (shit house) :P

GU357
08-07-2011, 10:38 PM
really, hmm i thought that wider tyres took less pressure :/ like a bik tyre is 60psi so this being wider it would be a lower one lol, but thanks for the update.

just pump them up so they ook fairly flat on the top and the edges dont wear because the middle is sunken in.

and tightenin just stand on the iron until the nuts dont go any further, easiest way.
how the hell is this thread still going?

what did you do there?

its most likely because those rims ran ont he front i think so the tyres make them look cambered? and plus the car isnt lowered makes it look even more distorted.

anyway heres the spoiler :D im so proud of my self LOL.

i was actually looking for another Jazz VTi or VTiS to pull the engine for parts, and do a K conversion for a track car, but the jazz seems to hold it's value really well... cheapest i could find in a VTiS was an auto 2003... $13,999 on cars guide.

Hence the change to me thinking of going a EG or EK civic...

OH, and if you mark the clear on a Black one, you'll never get the swirl marks out... BUT the 2005 skyhawk black is the most awesome of all the colours with the blue mica throu it... :)

hey, GU - you should get that grape purple colour teehee

GU357
22-07-2011, 07:07 PM
LOL the dark purple is ok but harder to get, the Really light blue is the one i will not be getting tho, it seems to have no real OOMPH neither blue or silver :/

I don't think that has to do with tightening rims hand tight, it might because his wheels sucks or he's using the wrong wheel nuts. I've never even had a wheel wobble with my rims. With the being said I use a breaker bar to tighten my rims not the cross spanner thingo.

yeh its also unlikely that they would all come off at the same time...

but still hilarious.
