Well, Basically, I just bought an EG and left it at home to go clubbing one night and came back in the morning only to find that my car didn't start. I'm no real mechanic but I'm kinda on a budget right now tryna pay rego for two cars so i'm not so keen to take it to a mechanic to tell me what's wrong with it. So I figured, for now the forum's best way to go! anyways! Bottom line is, it won't start now! I replaced the battery, still didn't work. I hit the starter motor while trying to turn the engine on, still didn't work. It's a 1.5L Dual Carby Engine. Oil light doesn't come on when I turn access. on. Does that make a difference? Oil is under the meter. I'm so noob on civic's and that so was wondering if you guys could help moi?

what you are saying that the engine is not cranking at all. What you can do is jump start the starter motor.
Look at the starter motor and you will see a black/white wire

get a wire connect it to the Battery Positive +, and put it in the place where you took the black/white wire. if the starter did not start than your starter is dead. Also check fuesbox underdash/underhood .

Starter motor is under intake it is the rusty one in this picture (http://www.photodump.org/stored7/start1.JPG)
If the engine cranking but not starting, it could be Fuel or sparks
How to check sparks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZceAZgZBn9E)
If you want to check fuel, you have a mechanical fuel pump connected to the head of the engine beside the distributor(dizzy) with two hoses (1 small and 1 a little bit larger) take one out and see if you have fuel in there.
Btw does the engine crank at all or dead

:O If it is cranking but not starting, check fuel and sparks, no need to check the starter motor.
Honda have a problem with the distributor. If you are not getting sparks, change the distributor.

you dont have to change the whole distributor ... just the ignition coil
same thing happened to me last month - i had ignition, battery was fine, engine turned over and there was fuel - but no spark
all the leads and plugs worked when tested so i replaced the ignition coil and gave the dizzy cap a bit of a clean and it worked =)

an ignition coil is about $70-170 from honda and there are DiY videos on how to change them out on youtube

Hey, I'm trying to search it up on youtube but nothing really specific is coming up. Is this what you guys are getting as well?
Btw, thanks for all the help! This would be so much better if I knew what a dizzy looked like.

Do not change anything Until you know the problem. Have you done spark test? if yes, are you getting sparks ? if no change the dizzy(dizzy is the black thing connected to the head of the engine with 4 wires(cables). Before you take it out if it is the problem(mark the bolts where they are, that's to not to mess your timing )there are 3 bolts.(just mark the upper one). go to the wrecker ask for distributor for your engine not anything else. buy it come back and put it same way it was
Note: Do not get messed up with the 4 wires(leads) just put them the same way they was.Do not forget to connect it to power and the 2 vacuum lines to it.

My EG won't start either after trying to reset my ECU, its a SOHC vtec engine.
So basically today I tried resetting my ECU,
-took it for a drive to get engine to running temp
-pulled out the fuse from fuse box
-let is sit for like 10min
-chucked the fuses back in
-started the car for another 10min
-turned it off, and wouldn't start again.
Now the problem is, when i try and start the car all the lights and electrics work, the lights on the cluster come on, the CEL light disappears as per normal, but all i hear is a rapid clicking noise. It's either the starter motor is goners, or maybe battery terminals are dirty? I'm going to try and see what i can do tomorrow, anything else I could try?
I've done a bit of reading, people recommending rolling the car in highest gear back and forth, tapping the starter motor, cleaning connections and shit, anyone ever had a similar problem and was not resolved by getting a new starter motor?
