Hey guys, yesterday i just installed my d16y1 and first started it today and it runs and sounds great but there is a massive amount of oil dripping from the sump.

i silicone the sump and nipped the bolts up tight but not to tight cause i was afraid i would wreck the bolts.

Ive had this problem before with my d15b7 motor and i just tightened the shit out of the bolts and it stopped.

is it a common thing to under tighten the sump bolts or something i can do other then just tighting them. is there some pressure that makes that happen

cheers in advance guys Alessio

take the sump off and replace the gasket with a new one, get either a genuine one from honda, or get an ACL one from somewhere like repco.

Make sure you give the two gasket surfaces a really good clean to get all the shit off them before you put it back together

I got some silicon gasket, I put some on the bolt tight it and put a little bit over it and that's stopped the leaking

replace the gasket mate - dont try and patch it - may as well do it properly

if the gasket was brand new means two things.

1. the surfaces werent absolutely spotless
2. bolts not torqued up. get a torque wrench onto them, and get them up to factory specs

i must of not tightened the bolts up enough cause the surface was micky and the gasket is brand new. recken its to late to just torque em up

Is it a new sump? Alternatively the old sump might be warped from heat. I've had two friends who have been forced to get new sumps after trying 2-3 new gaskets because the old one is too out of shape to seal properly anymore.

it is brand new man. ill just tighten it and go from there. i hate these little head aches i swapped the whole engine in a day and this oil leak is setting me back days

Before getting new gasket try removing the Sump place it on flat surface upside down. Get 1/2 drive extension and rubber mallet and tap the edges of the Sump. The reason for this sumps do warp from heat. Also get a Straight edge and check the block for clearance by using feeler gauge and checking the gap using the specs. If not new gasket and bolts tension to spec and 1/4 turn after that.. Shouldn't be using silicone indicates gasket isn't doing its job.

Are you sure you have not tightended it 'too tight'? If you tighten it too much it will squease out the gasket out the sides and it will leak. It needs to be torqued correctly.

chek the thread on sump? my thread on my old sump was minced, so i jus ordered brand new sump instead of retapping it.

drive shaft seal was pushed in and the gear box oil was coming out when u were driving and it was spraying everywhere so it was hard to see if wasnt the sump when it was all over the place.
