I have searched alot and read conflicting reports. I will call VIC roads tomorrow to make sure - but to satisfy my curiosity, can anyone tell me if the following is legal in Victoria:

Engine from a 93 GLi into a 95 VTi sedan and then the opposite: engine from the VTi into the GLi. So I am basically switching engines.

Thanks for any help.

No you can not do it, vic roads rules. same year +, nothing before. why you want to do this at all.

No this is not correct.

As long as the engine meets chassis emissions standards - in this case 92-95 efi - then it falls under "replacement engine" and all you need to do is "adjustment of records" at a blueslipping place.

It is perfectly legal because both engines were a standard option in the Australian market for Civics of the 92-95 era.

he means the D15b7 (as it says in the original post Gli) and the D16y1 (as it says in the original post Vti)

why are you wanting to do this anyway?

why not get a D16y1/D16z6 intake manifold and D16a6 cam for the D15b7 and be done with it?

Thanks for clearing that up for me Jord.

Or swap out your OEM 1.6L crank for an OEM 1.7L crank to stroke it out another 100 odd cc's, slam in a Bisimoto camshaft, some OBX ITB's, a cheap-ass N*Power header followed by a 60mm exhaust. Then you won't lose your dignity against a B16A :D

D17 blocks are bolt on with D16/D15??

stop giving me ideas!!!!!

No! Unfortunately they 100% are not despite hundreds of attempts!

But you can remove a D17 SOHC crankshaft from the D17 crank and it's a straight fit into a D16 SOHC block, although you might need to grind your pistons a little bit so they don't clear the block, or buy custom ones.

So you can make your D15 a D17 and get some USDM custom hi-comp pistons uleh.

would a d16 crank work on a d15??

SOHC and SOHC quite possibly

would a d16 crank work on a d15??

d15b is 75mm bore and 84.5mm stroke - where the d16's are 75mm x 90mm (extra stroke gives the extra displacement)
Yes this is rod talk - but that may mean the crank wont fit without machining. Anyone know for sure ?

u get similar results with the came and intake manifold and they are much easier to bolt on lol

stroke it with the above and you pretty much have a D16a6 lol

but then why would you bother when the D16a6 was locally delivered here lol

actually it wasnt - and if there are any around good luck finding them

that and they were only available for an older car

the D15b7 with D16a6 cam and D16z6/y1 intake manifold performs the same if not better than the D16a6 anyway and parts only cost like $150

well it was ... but by looking at the model it was released in - good luck finding one lol

o rly? ... starting to find a few model comparisons with the US now =D

for an EG D15b7 i would still go the A6 cam + Z6 intake manifold over a A6/Z2 swap
similar results with a quarter of the effort
