Hey peeps, i hear Motul oil is the go when it comes to oil that can last 10,000kms. Reason im asking is that i cant be bothered changing oil every 5000kms nowadays lol, call me lazy, but i think its costing me more an more....
what are your experience with other oil manufactureres that can last atleast 10,000kms. Im prepared to spend atleast $100.
Castrol edge and Vavoline ive noticed tend to not work as effective after it clicks over 5000kms, 5w 30.

Dont be cheap. Replace your oil at every 5,000km interval, if you love your car.
Reasonable oil, Castrol edge. Theres no such thing for a 'longer lasting oil'. Oil is oil. Same shit different name (not compared 0w-40 vs 10w-40, theyre are different).
Motul doesn't last longer, actually, Motul oils arn't even meant for 5,000KM's, you have to change it atleast at 3,500. I tried it, and it goes black really quick.

really??? motul oils dont last very long??? ive heard opposite, that motul can last a bit, due to its additives in it
Im jus tryna weigh it up atm.... i do change my oil every 5000kms though

Nothing at all wrong with 10k km oil changes.
Penrite oil is pretty good.

Then I have no idea, I'm just talking from experaince. I barley race my car, but it happens once in a moon light.
Keep doing it at 5000km, use castrol 10w-40, its not that bad for an oil but its cheap for 5000kms.
I use Different oils, Motul I used once, its good for track, daily... nah. Mobil1, good for daily + track, it lasted me 5000km. Royal purple, an alright oil. Lasted me 5000km. Nulon, Castrol edge, OEM = same as Royal purple.

I use, and my mechanic recommends, Mobil1 10w-40 for my Integra. Its reasonably priced and will last you for the full 10,000 if that's what you're looking for. There isn't anything really wrong with waiting to change the oil over ever 10,00 km's it is probably what your logbook recommends?
I have heard that its better for your car to stick with one type of oil, what are you currently using?

kool guys, good to see some input :)
If i had the money, every oil change would be motul lol, but considering its price tag, its not fiesable
Lately, with castrol, ive noticed once it hits 5000kms or more, the car takes longer to start, yet when i put in fresh oil in, its starts up easier
Ill switch to 10w-40 the next change, i think 5w 30 is far to thin, alright now, since its winter, but when its spring, im definite goin thicker
cheers guys

i believe its for all honda's minus the type-R the 10000kms. Still stuck on castrol edge, only cause of cost, but if i do go for 10000kms, than i can afford the more expensive oils at the expense of longer kms, hence the 10000kms intervals. And if it leads to that route, i wont be switching to any other brands lol
Mobile 1 sounds good, ill have to go an look it up :)

Well I rate Mobil1. I went through the whole 10k last time without changing it and I didn't notice a decrease in performance or anything. I had a look to see if it needed topping up a few times but it was always pretty good until the end :).

thats the thing ive noticed with castrol though, towards the end of 5000kms, the last 3 changes as well, the car jus feels less of performance, lol, so one last change is on the card, than im switching to another brand

Yeah I know they meant to turn black, but with motul it happens abit too quickly.
And that was the thing that bothered me. I dont like my oil going black at all haha. Cheers ukley

There are long service oils out there they are almost all synthetic. I'm using mobil 1 extended performance.
Says on the bottle it can last up to 15000 miles :-/. 10k km should be just fine.

Ill repeat... Going black means its doing its job. The quicker it goes the black the more shit its taking into itself to protect your engine. You are essentially saying that you would rather it look cleaner and not protect vs going black and protecting.

You would be wrong. The only difference between winter and spring is the starting temperature which is referred to by the first number. You want that number to be as small as possible no matter what the conditions. That is if you want it to actually protect your engine more at start up.
The later number refers to the viscosity at operating temperature which should be the same in winter and spring. Unless of course your cooling system is ****ed?
The coolant flows so as to keep the engine at the same temperature all year round. It will allow less flow in winter when the radiator works better and more flow during summer when the radiator takes out less heat. Either way, you want an oil that will show the right oil pressure at operating temperature, which is most likely 30 as is the OEM oil. The only reason people use Xw-50 etc is for track conditions when the engine does go higher than normal operating temps and so must be thicker to maintain the right oil pressure at the higher temps.

I'll repeat, "Yeah I know they meant to turn black". Well, I love my oils clean. And I change it every 5,000km, or 3months, whatever comes first. If you can re-read my post as I said MOTUL turns black quicker. And compared to other oils it bothered me, as I dont like my oils turning black that quickly. Why?
Black oil sign: A good sign. That means that the detergents are working correctly in the oil. It is doing its job of cleaning and picking up the soot and other impurities in your engine.
So by theroy, its a dirty oil. But hey, I got some black oils at my house if you want, since it protects your engine better. pm me and take it for free :p. Anyways I think its just me, whenever I open the bay, I'd rather see my oil nice and golden for a longer time.

Stacks up very well. A bunch of my friends and I use it. You don't need a big $$$ sign to sell the best oils.

Its not just about 'how long an oil lasts' its also about contaminants from the engine that get in to your oil (any oil) over time. Hence why regular oil changes are helpfull.

I never said not to change it every 5000kms. I said that you should want the oil that goes black quicker. If you choose an oil that is still gold at 5000kms then you are doing harm (obviously not that much, but still) to your engine. But hey, you gotta make it look good for all the people that see your oil :| :)

Apparently Amsoil is good too. I've finally received an email reply from their Aussie distributor and might be trying it out soon. I hear it's quite cheap, fully synthetic and very good stuff.

Nulon looks the good :), an its not as expensive, which is a win win! sucks being a povo uni student :(, i looked at mobile 1, at 100 bucks a bottle, it does seem tad expensive, but works out to be same as 2 bottles of castrol edge sports, so i guess its fine pricing
Amsoil is still very unknown here, so im keen to see how it performs compared to other oils here, i wouldnt mind being the Guinea pig if it means its cheaper LOL

I'll be the guinea pig and let you know haha. Nulon is about $65 a bottle.

Changing the oil at 5,000km will extend the life of the engine. If you plan to keep a car for a while, (especially when it has higher Ks) then you should better do it.
If you're gonna sell it in the next year or 2, then change every 10K.
I use Nulon 'fully syth' 10w40. Good bang for buck. A bit better than FEO.

i use royal purple and my oils purple too LOL!
also if your oil isnt lasting long doesn't that mean the oil that your using is too thin for your old engine?
^ not so sure on that one dont quote me on it.
