Let me explain a bit better than the title. my eg cluster temp needle goes to High but when i pop the bonnet and feel around the engine and the radiator. it is actually just warm not hot... and no steam coming out anywhere. and no weird noises coming out from engine. the radiator fan spins... whats wrong with my car? head gasket blown? but i cant see any oil leaking or residue in the coolant. thanks guys. let me know what you think.

More info needed. Does it do it when moving, when stopped, highway driving, around town, etc

First thing to do is swap the sensor. Its like cheap part to replace.

yeah it goes up high when its moving. when its stationary the temperature drops back to normal slowly. i have been sitting stationary and checking the temperature. it doesnt really go high... you think it may be the sensor? i mean if its overheating it should be too hot to touch right?

If its really overheating water will be pissing out the overflow bottle, and you wont even be able to go near it let alone touch it.

Have you changed the thermo fans? Sounds like what happens when theyre running backwards.

really appreciate your fast reply bro. yeah there is definitely no hot water pissing out from the bottle. thermo fans were fitted since the car roll out from factory. ive been driving it for the past 6 mths without any problems...

went out for a drive and test it out again. temp went to the highest scale. pop the bonnet. its not that hot. was able to touch the engine cover and top radiator hose. i stood there for about 10 mins. the radiator fan does not come on at all. while i was driving the temperature hit highest however it drop when i turn the fan on max and temp on hot.

Is you radiator clogged ? Have you checked if you have air inside your cooling system.

dont think the radiator is clogged. was replaced at the last service... um... this is really confusing. could be so many things.

You connect the fan directly to the battery
when you driver for 10-15 min get out of the car and check if the fan is working.
you can also try after driving for some time, turn off the car than just turn the ignition untill u see lights in the cluster. the fan should be working if the temp is high.

I had the same problem, I read that trick were you turn the heater on full and run the engine with the radiator cap off (stationary) gets rid of air pockets... then installed a new radiator cap.. fixed

Do this trick and rev around 2000rpm for 30 40 seconds, and you should see that coolnat level went down if there was air inside the cooling system

Because your hands must be heaps more accurate than the temperature gauge.

Maybe your rad fan isn't working, oh wait you said it works fine.

Oh wait

the fan motor isnt working.

I'm sure this thread could be very useful to future users who feel around their engine bay to see if their motor is overheating.
