Synchro

When was the last time you changed the transmission fluid? Also, if the synchros are worn, you will have to replace them, which is $$$

In the mean time, you can double-clutch to get into 2nd gear at high RPM, but that is slow anyway.

I Change the fluid when i did the clutch so yeah... what a good trans fluid? i used penrite oil..

btw what would be cheaper replacing the synchros or just change the whole gearbox?

Good 2nd hand box > changing syncros

Same thing happened to me a while ago. For some reason something was out of wack i took itto my mechanic and he adjusted something i thing it might be the syncros but not sure

drop the gearabox fluid and run it through a coffee filter. See how much metal comes out.

Hondas are very fussy about gearbox oil. They have very fine oil channels, so it is essential that you use the correct oil that Honda specify.

Honda gearbox with skipped servicing usually means trouble. Wrong oil will kill synchros.

Which Penrite gear oil did you use?

You should use Honda MTF. Honda manual transmissions require 75w80. The penrite that you used might be 75w90 which is too thick. It works fine initially and then gearshifting turns notchy because the synchros eat themselves up due to the oil being too thick.

Then you are lucky. Reverse gear does not have synchros and hopefully the 2nd gear issue is also non-synchro related.
Check your clutch fluid level and bleed out any air bubbles too. Also check the shifter linkages which are above the transmission (under the airbox).

If it is your fluids try and rev your car while clutch in and chucking it in reverse it should get the fluids moving around its way I did when mine was playing up
