Hi All,

I'm looking at this NSX for sale on Car Sales but it's history is not clear, so I'm trying to find out more information about it;

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?Cr=5&R=10762829&keywords=&trecs=7&__sid=1253510966E5&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&seot=1&__N=1216 1246 1247 1252 1282 4294965322 4294964914&silo=1011

The VIN Number and Engine Number are NA11000524 and C30A1005409 respectively. Does anyone know how to figure out what country this vehicle was sold in based on the VIN Number?

Why can it not be road registered?

I'd be very suspicious of it. While you might have ideas about doing up the car for track duty. I'd like to point out that NSX parts, OEM and aftermarket, are very, very expensive. It's almost like they come from another planet, away from Honda.

The dealer selling the car said "we don't know why it can't be road registered, the guy we bought it from 7 years ago told us it couldn't"

I am very suspicious, but the fact it can't be road registered is not a concern. We are looking for a NSX to turn into a dedicated Time Attack car, and the cost of parts is not an issue. I just need to know if this car is legit and if it really is a 1997 model.

Im guessing its a jap import that hasnt been complianced, the laws were different back then.

by the way, why would a dealer be selling a car they bought 7 years ago?

It's probably stolen with mismatching engine no. and chassis vin.

Check the chassis for any damage/dodgey repairs, motor etc, if everythings ok, then you're good to go.

Is this car sold at a dealer or private? either way i think it's been stolen/imported from overseas

the car was maybe imported for the 15 yr import rule but never got registered or was unable to as they did kill the scheme off very quickly
thats why it was sold to the car yard
definitely not a 97 model

CarSales add says it's a MY91.

Wow, some people jump to the most negative of conclusions. If it were stolen in Australia I doubt you'd see it advertised VIN and all on an Aus website. And do you really think someone would steal an old NSX overseas and import it?

I expect the car was imported privately without all the necessary DOTARS approvals and as such, is ineligible for Aus registration. Don't think there is a way around it, but as a track car it's a great buy.

It is DEFINITELY NOT a 1997 model.
Black roof is the dead giveaway.
After 96? I think it was all NSX roofs were colour coded.

The reason why it can't be registered, is because it was imported for race use only.

Sigh, this is the one I nearly bought 4yrs ago.

Back then it had 42 or 45000Km on it and the advertised price was 72, but I negotiated to 65. Then this bitch bought it.

In regards to the Vin number, thats not the FULL Vin, rather the serial number.

From the details provided the FULL Vin will look almost identical to this:
JH4NA115XMT000524
JH4NA115XMS000524

X Could be a number, its just the check digit.

Refer here for specifics:

An automatic targa? The worst of both worlds, crappy gearbox and plenty of flex. You dodged a bullet there mate. Nice colour though.

Bit more info on NSX Prime- http://nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150115

Looks like it might be ok for parts?... An expensive car that disrespected probably isn't good mechanically either and it all just seems so dodgy!

Eh. For $19k, these things go for like $20k+ in the states.

stupid question but how can an aluminium body rust?

and buying a targa and doing a manual swap :) good choice its not as tricky as people think, I almost picked up a black auto and was going to do the same thing but the guy was firm as on his price, this was 2 years ago and its still for sale lol

It's not a stupid question, it's a question about a stupid statement.

I expect lude is wanting to buy it and trying to scare off competition. I can't believe he is that, ummm let's say, uninformed?

I don't want it. I'm never buying another Honda again for as long as I shall live.

Oh, in that case perhaps I was wrong.

And I agree with you. I'd never buy another Honda either. I'm happy with the one I've got. ;)
