Ok guys....gonna be doing a DIY CAI (locating the filter behind the bumper) soon....and was planning on getting the piping for it.....NOW!

My problem is -what size piping should i use??

I have a B16A with just an exhaust atm...

2.5" piping may be too small.....i would probs get more low end torque....but not any power (kinda defeats the purpose of my car..)

3" piping would give me some horsies......but i would loose some drivability.

....and im not sure whether ill be able to get 2.75"? (not getting straight pipes.....need a specific "U" shaped peice.

any help that is posted quickly would be of much help.

cheers.

thanks guys......anyone else?

i went to the hardware store...but couldnt find what i was looking for....im after:

"The dimensions you need for the 2.5" piping are 18" minimum leg length, 5" radius, and a 180 degree bend. The dimensions for the 3" piping are 18" minimum leg length and 6" radius"

just use a DC ( vtir or ITR) inlet piping ( the one from the airbox to the throttle body) - and run it fomt the bottom of the airbox, and it curves almost exact fit thru to the from right bumper hole - perfect.

LOOK ! CAN u see the intake piping in the bumper ?

the stock plastic piping will go direct from ur stock b16a one, thru 2 ur bumper easy ;)

2.5 is all you need definitely, if you get huge piping, you can lose power just like but not to the same extent a 3inch xhaust will have you lose power.
so 2.5 is fine.

yeh....i was kinda thinking the same thing.....but wasnt sure.

can anyone else confirm that 3" would be too big?

..iv also heard that 2.5" is too small.....hence my dillema ...

i got the same ride and i made up my own piping, i used 3'' with my pod filter, it sits where the factory airbox was. I am also running a cat-back 2.25'' exhaust and i have lost some power down low...but i got it up top. Thats where i wanted it, B16a's like to rev, my way of thinking is to match the way the motor runs, allllll the way to 8500rpm hehe

we are in the exact same possi mate!

i got a 2.25" cat back too....and felt exactly the same :D

im getting the piping in....but its gonna cost $57 ! plus a K&N pod and a few pvc clamps..

did u find that the CAI made a diff??

70mm... or 2.75inches...

Aim for a total length of 24~26 inches from throttle to filter... ;)

Cheers

Edit: Put the filter near to / under the driver's headlight.
Via hole in inner guard / fender
