With less than month to go until the YOKOHAMA ADVAN World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) 2011, we are getting very excited. WTAC will be held on Friday 5th- 6th with Eastern Creek Raceway, once again playing host to the World's biggest time attack event.

The Pro Class is shaping up to be just as, if not bigger than last year with the Cyber Evo returning (being shipped as we speak) to defend its title as outright fastest.
All the named cars have been subject to hundreds more hours of testing and tuning in hope of faster lap times.
How much more competitive will WTAC 2011 be? Here is a recap of all the so far named cars competing.
There are still challengers yet to be named so check regularly for updates

Pan Speed Mazda RX7

Rotary fans rejoice as the Pan Speed RX7 returns to Eastern Creek for WTAC 2011 much to our ears delight. Despite many setbacks they managed still managed an impressive 1:32:4540. With one more years testing, a new Holinger gearbox and a power upgrade we are expecting them to break into the 31’s. It seems we haven’t yet seen the best from team Pan Speed.

Scorch Racing S15
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/scorch-banner.219.jpg
There is no question Suzuki-san is the underdog. The S15 is a car built by himself and driven by himself, and lastly and most importantly… there is every damn chance this car could win OUTRIGHT! You see there are no wind tunnels, extensive engine development programs or seasoned Super GT drivers in this team. There is simply one very determined man with a dream, and his buddies who have quietly tinkered away late into the night on the outskirts of Tokyo and produced a car that well, to be honest, almost makes a mockery of some much more exotic machinery. This car is another that has undergone quite an extensive rebuild prior to coming down under for the World Time Attack Challenge

Hankook Carbon WRX
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/hero-banner-carbon.230.jpg
Ben Creswick has built this highly-modified carbon-fibre bodied Subaru WRX, featuring a fully sequential transmission and 2.5-litre turbo-charged flat-four ‘boxer’ engine. The Hankook Carbon WRX, piloted by a high-profile professional driver, will target the current WTAC lap record, set by driver Tarzan Yamada and Japanese team CyberEvo to win the 2010 event. Limited testing of the Hankook Carbon WRX at Wakefield Park Raceway has seen the car set an easy 1:01.9. Further development to the engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamics should see that time improve markedly before the August event.

Mercury rising GTR
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/q-scan-hero.268.jpg
The Mercury Motorsport backed R35 GTR of Mark Hansen that has recently been making a big noise in the Queensland Time Attack series has confirmed entry into the Pro Class for World Time Attack 2011 and has undergone a major transformation from modified street car to complete full blown time attack race car in the lead up to the event. The R35 is the Jap spec GTR and features a US built AMS Performance forged engine, rated at 800hp. This engine coupled with lightweight carbon fibre body panels should make this GTR extremely competitive in the Yokohama ADVAN WTAC 2011.

Advan/Hi Octane Racing R34 GTR
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/hi-octane-racing-advan-r34gtr-3.152.jpg
The ADVAN/ Hi Octane Racing R34 GTR is back, lighter, wider and faster! The car has undergone a full suspension makeover with more favourable geometry that will see the car sit lower to the ground. The car will also be using a much wider track and if all goes to plan should be running on the yet to be released soft Yokohama Advan 295/35/18 AO 50 tyres. The car has also undergone a revised aero package and will certainly be aiming to be a lot closer to the pointy end of the field in 2011. The team has learnt a lot from last years event and are keen to put their newly acquired knowledge to the test

Tilton Interiors Evo 9
http://www.worldtimeattack.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Tilton-Evo-567x376.jpg
he new Tilton Interiors Evo 9 Pro Class entry of Kostinken Pohorukov. This team has long been a force to be reckoned with in Australian time attack racing and has competed in every single Superlap event with a Pro Class victory to their name in 2009 at the final Oran Park event. The engine is a complete Cosworth deal set up and tuned by Insight Motorsport who has had a large hand in much of the build. A PPG dog gearbox and V8 Supercar spec brakes also look menacing behind the fat Rays wheels that will be wrapped in Yokohamas finest new 295 AO50s. The car also has some trick new aero that we “were not allowed to see yet” and is something the team believe will be a big advantage in their campaign.

Sierra Sierra Enterprises Evo 8
http://www.advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/sierra-sierra.32.jpg
With a very strong showing in 2010 and a second place just behind the Cyber Evo, this team have certainly made their intentions very clear for 2011. They are a very experienced team and with another year of development under their belt are certain to be a force to be reckoned with in August at Eastern Creek. The 4G63 engine has seen a fair increase in power since we last saw it in May 2010, having switched to the new BorgWarner EFR Performance Series turbocharger, E85 fuel and is still in a state of constant development from Eric Hsu and the team at Cosworth USA. The results of this have been obvious as this team has been busy resetting their own records with a time of 1:41.046 recorded at Buttonwillow at the end of 2010.

GT Autogarage HKS R35 GTR
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/hksr35.292.jpg
Superlap Australia has been in talks with HKS Japan since late last year regarding the possibility of them competing in WTAC 2011 in particular the possibility of the CT230R coming to Australia. Their previous test mule for their range of products has been turned into a full blown time attack car capable of taking on the world. The GTR includes secret parts that the Japanese tuning company had in development but are not available to the public as yet. The GTR has been on a strict carbon fibre diet and even though the team won’t reveal its true weight, it is evident that the HKS GTR is but a fraction of its obese former self.

Garage Revolution RX7
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/revolution-hero.235.jpg
The question on everyone’s lips since they laid down the sizzling lap time at Tsukuba in December is “Is Garage Revolution bringing the RX7 to World Time Attack?” And the answer is most certainly YES! The sizzling time we are referring to is a time of 53.673, which puts this car within one tenth of the HKS CT230R record time of 53.589 set by Nob Tanaguchi in 2007 and making this now by far the fastest time attack RX7 in Japan and probably the world. This car has been in a state of constant development since it debuted in 2008 at Tsukuba and has continued to improve with many changes to the aero package and the 13B twin rotor engine now sporting a specially constructed GCG turbo giving more power and response coupled to a Hewland sequential 6 speed gearbox and dinner plate sized Project Mu brakes all round.

Notaras Motorsport Evo 8
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/notaras.45.jpg
After a drama filled 2010 World Time Attack event where the Notaras Motorsport Evo only made a few laps with V8 Supercar driver Steve Owen the team will be returning in 2011 with a much more refined weapon. They now have a dry sump on the engine and further improvements to the aero and horsepower and look forward to hitting the Eastern Creek circuit with a vengeance. This year they will employ the services of rally ace and fellow Canberra resident Rick Bates to handle the wheel work. Notoras helped the Cyber Evo guys when they had a terminal engine failure on the practice day and destroyed their cylinder head. They supplied the Cyber team with their spare head and to be honest had this not have happened, the 2010 results would have read totally different and the Cyber team were so happy with the help they got – they plastered the door with a Notaras decal!

Fernandez Motorsport XR6 Ute
http://www.worldtimeattack.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/fernandez-ute-010-567x376.jpg
Headed by former V8 Supercar driver Jose Fernandez, the team certainly raised some eyebrows last year when, for a bit of fun, they took a BA Falcon V8 supercar they had lying around and repowered it with a dry sump XR6 turbo engine. “We certainly learnt an awful lot last year” said Jose “and the first thing we learnt is that you cannot compete with 900kg purpose built time attack cars in a heavyweight 1500kg endurance racing car”. So with this in mind the bright green car that appeared in 2010 was returned to its original format of V8 Supercar and sold off to fund a purpose built time attack car that is built to do one job and one job only – lap Eastern Creek in the lowest possible time. Hopefully the Ford fans will be their to cheer on the Aussie muscle take on the rest of the world

Pulse Racing Evo 8
http://www.worldtimeattack.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/head.jpg
The Evo 8 of Pulse Racing was certainly the talk of the hotly contested Open Class at WTAC 2010 with a winning time of 1.36, an easy three seconds clear of their closest rival in the open class. The time would have infact seen the car finish well inside the top ten of the Pro Class. For 2011 they have their sights set much higher as they chase the Pro Class victory, something that they believe is achievable, and they have set to work on the Evo to try to make that goal a reality. A power increase, new Ohlins race coil overs and a PPG Dogbox have been added to the car since last year. Keep your eyes on this car, we’re expecting good things.

Unique Autosports 300ZX
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/Unique-autosports-300zx-hero.281.jpg
This car first appeared at the very first Superlap at Oran park in 2008 in the hands of “Mr Time Attack”John Boston and a revised version was back again in 2009 once again with Mr Boston doing the driving before the decision was made to take it to the “next level” and the car was stripped to a bare shell to turn it into the weapon you see in front of you. Firstly anything that was not needed was removed and if it was required it was remade out of carbon fibre in a concentrated effort to get the weight down under the 1200kg mark. The big heavy VG30 was also removed and replaced with a much more modern and lighter aluminium block VQ30 engine which was then dry sumped and sat much lower in the chassis. Running mild boost this 300zx makes excess 500 horsepower, we can’t wait to see what it can do with the boost wound up!

Team RevolutioNZ Evo 8
http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx270/go2spacebucket/YOKOHAMA/NZteam2.jpg
Team Revolutionz Evo of Scott Kreyl has had under a complete overhaul for the event. These guys realised early in the piece that to compete against the worlds fastest they would need to come with similar equipment and the car was stripped to a shell. The brief given was “If it doesnt need to be there, get rid of it and if it does need to be there then make it lighter” and hence the car has shed an awful lot of weight. They have also fitted a straight cut Albins dog engagement gearbox and having the HKS CT230R sitting at their sponsors Redline Performance showroom, has also proved to be an extremely valuable resource for ideas. After all if you are going to try to build the fastest time attack Lancer Evo it makes sense to model it of the one that is already the fastest! This Kiwi car reportedly has a stack of power and will certainly be worth keeping an eye on in August, that is for sure.

Prep’d Motorsport Lotus GT3
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/prepd-hero.284.jpg
Last year at WTAC 2010 this car came fourth outright. This makes the Prep’d motorsport Lotus Australia’s fastest WTAC cometitor and WTAC’s fastest RWD car. The car still runs the original Toyota 2ZZ GTE engine but the supercharger that ran on this car from the factory is long gone and in its place a rather large Garrett turbocharger and intercooler set up all built by the guys at Prep’d. The engine features forged internals a MoTec ECU and a host of other tweaks. The suspension is Ohlins and the brakes are AP Racing and the whole package weighs in at well under 800kg. The biggest change this year will be that the car will be running on sticky Yokohama AO50 tyres which should see the times tumble.

Cyber Evo
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/cyber-evo-ta.163.jpg
The Cyber Evo has largely been retired since winning World Time Attack Challenge 2010 but coming back to defend their title is something these guys would not miss out on. Last year these guys beat the longstanding V8 supercar record and it would appear they now want the outright sedan record and the amazing part is they are doing it on road legal tyres NOT racing slicks! The team has also mentioned they will be upgrading the engine for more horsepower and obviously putting some work into strengthening the rear wing assembly after losing it at Eastern Creek in the final session. This is fantastic news for Time Attack fans who want to see the Cyber Evo again – and there is only one place to see it – Eastern Creek on the 5th and 6th August!
