So I went to clean my IACV today as I'd been experiencing fluctuating idle to find this:

Is this a problem? Is this why my idle is rough?

ably idling because not enough air is getting through due to the carbon build-up, and the hole won't help. Buy a new seal.

What exactly am I looking to buy?

IACV seal/gasket. Take it with you, tell them what engine it's from and show them. Confirm it's the right one before you pay/leave.

And clean it out with 'Super engine conditioner' or 'Suburu upper engine cleaner' (same thing)

beeza, haven't seen you in ages!

Is Subaru UEC so much different to regular carby cleaner?

Subaru upper engine cleaner is much better at removing carbon build up compared to the regular carby/throttle body cleaner you get from supercheap/repco etc. Its got a different combo of ingredients that seem to work well and it comes out like a foam rather than the usual spray. Usually get mine from the local subaru service/parts centre for about $17, the cans are small but you dont need to use as much so it balances out.

^^ Exactly!

Hi Dougie :)

Don't get on here much but I miss it and will propably get back to talkin' shiz with da boys real soon I reckon! hehehe

When U use the cleaner, give it time to soak in and it works so well.Same when U use it in the upper engine,ya gotta give it time to soak in.
