front dust covers rubbing on rotors

Hi everyone,
Just upgraded to dc2r calipers and redrilled slotted rotors on my ek4, i'm finding that the dust covers are rubbing against the rotors.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is removing the dust covers a bad idea?

just bend them out of the way? lol

or simply remove it.. from memory its a couple of small phillips head screws holding it in place.

there's no problems with removing them? i.e. higher risk of crap getting stuck etc?
