More info. It cranks but doesn't fire, or slow cranks.

Could be battery

'rough' as in not firing on all cylinders? , or low idle ? did you change /check your leads too, fuel pump? what car & engine?

Like DNY BOY said, fuel pump could be going.

rough as in i open the throttle and it reacts half a second late.... i have to squirt the "start ya bastard" can in the throttle to start it... checked leads, dnt know how to check pump

Because it sounds like the fuel pump isn't priming, that's why it takes 30 seconds or so till it runs fine.

yea spot on mate, like you start it then the car has a varied firing and then goes up to warm up idle? when the cars cold, turn key to reds dont turn all the way wait untll check light turns off youll hear the pump prime and 'click' then start you car.

yeh i always prime it up like 3 times before i even tries to fire up, but still find it hard

3 times? as in you turn the key on and off? or are you pushing the pedal? Hows your dizzy / dizzy cap? Do you hear the actual click for the pump? Does the car make a high pitched pinging noise when you drive (like the morning after clubbing)? Does your engine check light come on?

key turns reds on and off 3 times, no pushing of the pedal unless needed, dizzy seems fine, pump clicks and you hear it run, im running a 255 walbro pump, engine light goes off as normal

so you are running walbro , interesting i had an issue like this a few years ago where on low fuel levels the FPR was having issues. Is your fuel below quarter ? Are you running D or B? and is FPR stock?

ye fuel is below quarter, and running a d series, fpr is standard

Its common after putting in the 255 the FPR gets funny , this may be the actual problem or not.

its been in for so long though and never had any issues with it

upto you mate , you may have a lower fuel pressure due to the FPR, it may not be the pump you may have to get an adjustable FPR one w/gauge so you can monitor pressure. Before buying anything go to an actual workshop and get them to check it theres always so many variables with these things.

Smell for fuel leaks around the bay, maybe a loose fuel hose somewhere not giving it pressure.

Could be the dizzy aswell.

good luck let us know bro

Starter motor mate, I had that problem myself. If the fuel pump has been working fine for you for a while its unlikely to just **** up unless u changed the type of fuel or let the tank run dry

I'm gonna try a used 255 walbro pump and see how that goes, if it fixes the problem then I'll invest in a new one...

So you recommend dizzy??? It's weird cos it runs beautifully when warm, just a bitch to start

I'm gonna give it a full tank tomorrow and a used pump and see how that goes... And look into the dizzy, the thing is it's been doing it for the last few weeks, and just got really bad

Changed the fuel pump and the fpr still abit hard to start but it is abit easier, next thing is the filter before the dizzy...

I could be wrong as its been a long time since ive done it but i remember reading in the service manual that if its the leads or dizzy cap you can tell by pulling out each lead one by one and listening for rev changes, in theory if its working then the revs will drop i think, and if its not working when you pull it out nothing with change since it was working to begin with.

However i could be wron and it might be a test for something else. just get another member to confirm before trying it.

Yeh that's to check the plugs to see if one is dead, I'll be changing the plugs soon....

Check the spark plug leads that connect to the distributor as this could have carosion, if so clean it and see how you go.
