stretched tyres put stress on the sidewalls as they werent designed to do it, but some tyres are better for stretching than others

stretched tyres let you fit a wider/lower offset wheels.

ive ran 195/50/15 nankang ns-ii tyres on my simmons and they were 15x8, as far as i see i had no problems with them, but thats probably because it wasnt a ridiculous stretch, and at the end of the day it depends on how stretched the tyres are, how well the tyres are maintained and how sensible the driver is

you can go here to check out what your stretched tyre would look like http://www.tyrestretch.com/

if you do a quick google search theres a lot of threads out there arguing whether or not stretched tyres are safe or not and if they're legal or not

i got 195/45 on sportmaxx's 15x8 ... Ride quality are bloody awful. Even though you're on springs..

But good thing is, as lukey said above*^

drifters stretch tyres, and they dont drive sedately.

as long as you maintain it and check ur tyres pressures reguarly youll be good

and the pressures need to be a tad higher than normal when stretching

but isnt it moar risk of popping it when going over a pot hole at a high speed ?

dodge potholes, and having it to low risks it coming off the bead when you got a big stretch

used to run 15'' og with 195/55r15 kumho ku31's

ran over a 10 cm pothole which i knew of by accident.

didnt sound very healthy, but came out no problem

lol. people stretch tyres because there wheels are to wide. and if they ran a fat tyre it would not fit under guards.

so they go with a smaller tyre which will stretch the tyre to just sit under guards.
thats if your car is low. if your car is like high like 2 finger gap. and you have stretch tyre.

it will look silly. ive been in tyre business for about 4years now. and been stretching tyres for awhile.
and never had it poped off the bead. so im pretty sure its safe. thats my opinion

look at drifters. the drift on stretch tyres. and never seen tyre poped off rim.
unless they didnt fit the tyre on correctly.

and its illegal. you can be defected. tyre will be small for car. load rating will be wrong.
but if your guna run 195 50 15 should stretch alittle on 8inch rim. and should be fine.

195 45 15 will be stretching it abit.

its the width of the tyre that mostly determines whether u will have massive stretch or not.

for instance for a 7 inch wheel, 205 tyres would sit flush with the edge of the wheels, 215 tyres is a tad wider, but still reasonable, 225 tyres is a bit pushing it, but i think mostly used on track/drag cars

for 8 inch wheel, i would say the "safe and legal" size would be either 215 or 225, from there its up to you to choose the profiles that would suit your car best, taking into account rubbing issues etc etc.

i found this from honda tech, just for your reference

15x9 front
15x8 rear
225/45/15 tires

stretching will also depend on the brand/make of tyres as different companies make them slightly different to other companies.

i got 195/50 toyo t1r on 15x8 +/-0

it will also depend on how low you are, how much guard work youve done and how much negative camber you are willing to run.

my rear camber is between -5 & -5.5 degrees and my front camber is around -4 degrees.

full car shot on how it sits/low it is.

personally i think http://www.rimtuck.com/ & http://www.tyrestretch.com/index.php are alot more useful then willtheyfit.com

hope that helps?

ive had those tyres on for a few years, cost me $160ea fitted back then. hows it ride? like a bucket of shit, lol, well something might see it like that but i dont mind it. i need to go to a smaller tyre as it rubs too much for my liking, will be going to a 195/45 nankang ns2 next.

I cant believe it would rub. There seems like plenty of clearance. .____.

~5mm clearance. i think most of the rubbing issue is the big sidewalls.

i dont live in metro vic, i live out in rural vic

Bendigo is rural and they are the worst with the hoon laws. I am impressed though, but that might just be due to the fact that if you tried to drive on the roads I do you would raise it inches after one drive.

Lukey

lol **** bendigo.

the town i live in is in my profile...

ive been driving like this for 5-6 weeks and not once been pulled over, driven past numerous cops.

haha i doubt i would raise it.

fair enough, you might find it hard to find a place that will fit a 195/50 on an 8" wide wheel

Bob jane is having a special on RE001's. Well they were a few weeks ago. Very cheap for 205/50/16 at least.
But then again, it was stock size.

jus curious man, how does it handle? worse than before? lol

Obviously the cars a stanced out, an no track car, but for street use, can u even drive like that all days of the week?

Lukey
01-08-2011, 07:28 PM
its not the best obviously, but its better than on my king springs and blown shocks hah!

i cant corner with much speed, i can go pretty much everywhere i went before but i scrape everything, gotta stop/angle to go up/down/over things, it tram tracks a bit cos of the camber. the front uca (skunk 2 adjustable) hit on the strut tower.

i drive it every day of the week but wouldnt mind another car.

i bought them about 3 years ago from a local independent tyre shop for $160ea fitted & balanced.

they were the only place that would fit 195/50 on a 15x8 so i stuck to them, but i no longer go to any local tyre shops.
