Hi, i was just after some information for a friend who has a 90 accord. we were fitting a filter, on his car today and i noticed that his motor was an F22A, in America can't you find vtec f series motors. is there any posibility of, maybe doing a frankenstien swap for this motor.
any help would be apreciated.
thanks

there is no point swapping to the F22B1 head. It should be possible to do a h22a head swap but it can be pretty hard to find a h22a head on it own. And the full engine swap is easier ;)

yes in the states they do put F22B1 heads on them butr its a waist of time fot extra 4 or so kw unless your gonna go positive pressure in the chamber, know what I mean :)

f22b is the accord engine with vtec as poid pointed out, and as he has also stated a h22a full swap is the best idea. Check out www.3geez.com its for 3rd Gen Accords but there are quite a few 4th gen people flaoting about and they know their stuff about most accords.

thanks for your help, but is it true that you can swap only the head of the h22a onto the f22. I'd have thort H series and F series arent that similar.
can any one give me a rough price and power out puts for the, f22b head swap, full f22b swap, or the h22a head swap.
thanks again

yeh the head from the h22a can be put on the F22 (its a recent thing though, not sure how reliable it is yet), not sure what power output you'll get from it but it wont be as much as the full h22a swap.

F22B1 is 107kw, h22a is 147kw and the f22 w/ h22a head will be somewhere in the middle

The B1 head isnt anything special, from what i understand the F22A heads actually flow a little better

If you were to put the h22 head on an f22 what kind of ecu would you need?
Since the f22 and h22 are similar, does that mean if u put the whole h22a into the accord, would you be able to keeps the old gear box?
What are all the parts that would be needed to switch to the h22 head?
Sorry about the list of questions, thanks anyways

You wouldn't have to change the gearbox with that h22 swap

You'd need an ECU that can run VTEC and secondary butterflies, don't think much more is needed.

P28, P30 would do the Job nicley, make it tuneable then tune to your likings on a dyno

you'd want to add secondary butterfly hardware to the p28 or p30 if you were gonna use one of those (or change intake manifolds)...the p72 ECu already has this hardware so IMO is a little easier.

Then again when getting these ECU's socketed to run different tunes its easy enough to add the hardware so its not a major drama.

As for the actual hardware to do the headswap, there is a bit of mucking around involved in it and its been a while since i've read the procedure so i'm not sure what you need other than the head
