Hi guys,
New to the forum, I noticed that yous all seem pretty helpful and have a lot of answers to give in comparison to other forums

Quick question, i recently purchased an Injen Air Intake and had it fitted last night and have an enquiry about whether this is normal or not..

It's a bit tricky to explain

On the actual intake pipe itself, includes some wiring, solenoid and a small valve.. this valve has a small circular black cap on it (a filter if you will).
I understand it's purpose is to prevent dust etc making its way through the piping,
but when it is on and the car is running it makes a constant suction noise (not tolerable at all),
but when this cap is removed, nothing.
It cannot possibly be normal as it kills the sound of the entire car. I also recently got a cat-back fitted and that is barely heard! :(

* I have phoned the supplier and they thought I was an idiot and thought I was asking why it made a "suction" noise under acceleration.haha.

That black thing is meant to stay there as mine just sticking around.
Is noise really that loud you can't hear the exhaust or engine over the whole car?

That's the vacuum control solenoid valve. What it does is switch on and off the vacuum to the Secondary Air Injection (part of the emissions control system). I'm guessing that you have an opening between the vacuum source from the manifold and the opening at the top of the unit. This is incorrect.

I'm guessing either the unit is stuffed (not likely) or the vacuum leads are connected the wrong way around (more likely). Try disconnecting and swapping the vacuum lines to it and see if this fixes it.

Yeah it's fairly frustrating haha,
if i pull it out a tiny bit the noise stops,
but I am worried that it may fall off

So bummed as the intake itself sounds amazing

Secoding what Aus said, i too had the suction noise, but on my stock airbox, as i was putting the airbox back together, I accidently had the vacuum leads the otherway around. I then did a search on youtube for 'suction noises' and found what my mistake was. Aus, is there anything u dont kno man?? hahah

Hey AusS2000,
are you local at all? I am located in Western Sydney and was curious if you'd like to meet up as I am having dramas with getting this rectified.

I'm local, you're not. ;)

I'm in Mosman, just on the north side of the harbour.

If you drop by I can fix it with my eyes closed.

Haha that is true!,

Oh bugger I am never out that way :-( but thanks heaps,
a lot of people don't seem to believe it isn't normal.
I have somebody dropping by tomorrow so hopefully it gets the job done!

It's real simple. You know the little solenoid thingy? Has two small hoses connected to it. Just pull them off and swap them around.

That's a common problem that some people come across. But easy fix. Good thing it wasn't anything serious
