Hi All,

After an earthquake and tsunami tried to stop me getting my JDM DC2R factory 16 inch rims, I finally have them!

But now the important part, I need tyres..

My stock ones are
15 x 6 JJ
195/55/R15

And apparently the JDM 16 inch uses

16 x 7 JJ
215/45/ZR16

Considering the final drive is different in the JDM DC2R (or did we get the same?) is this the tyre profile I should be looking for? I currently have 195/50/15 so my speedo is out, this is something I want to fix, so want to make sure the new tyres are at least giving me back a more accurate count.

And what is a good tyre for these? I dont have a huge budget, but dont want the cheapest I can find, so any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, and any ideas where I can get alloy wheel nuts to suit, as like my current factory rims, they take a rounded, not conical wheel nut (so much for my new set of blue Rays nuts.. ).

Heres a pic with a half chinese race-queen

205 45 16 should be good for your application will sit nicely on your DC2R :)

205 45 16 should be good for your application will sit nicely on your DC2R :) So you think 215 will not be right? or is it a price thing?

215 45 16 is stock.

JDM and AUDM FD is both 4.7

I personally would go 205 45 16 because of the price and availability and slightly more stretch look.

as above .. :) and as for tyres dude try hitting up the group buy that is on atm ..
the prices should be out soon and you may be able to get some good tyres for a reasonable price.. :)

what difference will it make for the speedo? i would have thought the wider rubber was better, more grip

i dont think either of above would make much of a differece.. im running 205 45 16 atm after my DC2R stock rims and couldnt really notice any difference at all..

I was hoping for more grip, I find my cheaper 195 tyres let go very easily in the wet, but am thinking Khumo or Falken, don't think I can afford Bridgestone or Yokohama

just got kumho ku31 205/45r16 for my jdm 16''s

sits perfect, grips like a horny slut

from miata tyre calc my speedo is 0.8% too fast, so if 100kph on speedo im actually doing 99.2kph, no worries

i was gonna get 215/45r16 but they exxy and most are available in semi-slicks, i mean you could try ku36 but its almost twice the price of ku31 and shit treadwear for daily usage..

i rkn ku31s ftw!

consider z1 star spec? they're really good and treadwear is acceptable (180?)
whats your budget though? missus really likes your nickname btw hahaha.

Hey Guys, thanks for the input, I would have liked the 215 as they are JDM factory spec, but after some searching, can see thats going to be harder, so Dunlop Direzza, better than Khumo? (and pricewise?) was thinkinh Bridgestone, but I am going to have issues going over $200 each tyre, and will be selling my 15's to help cover the cost (unless I can talk the tiger-mother around it) Will need good wearing as I can't keep buying every year, I do about 10K per year,

Anzai, the Miata calculator is awesome, have you confirmed using a couple of GPS's ? I have had Khumo before, but interested in what else is out there

Anyone know where to get alloy nuts to suit?

Cheers, Tseesinngwailo (Mochi, my wife is Canto, its what her family call me hahaha)

either use oem locknuts or gorilla nuts.

OK, so I can get Khumo KU31 for $170 or Yokohama S Drive for $195 unless someone knows anywhere near Castle Hill that does Direzza Z1 Star spec ? and out of these, is it worth having the more grip but more wear, or go the Khumo's ?

And the Gorilla nuts? they say Acorn but all the pics on their site look like conical..

Give this place a try - http://www.option1garage.com.au/NewTyres.htm

I got my Kumho KU36 in 215/45/16 from them. Had them post it to me as they are from QLD, didn't cost too much with postage. I am currently 16" JDM DC2R rims with 215/45/16 tyres on my car. 2215/4/16155/16

Are the KU36 road legal? or for track days? and whats the likely wear on them? I would like to think I can get at least 20K out of them, the site says $144 each which is awesome, so as long as postage is not too much, might get those

Yeah, the KU36 are road legal, I use them as my street tyres which you can use for occasional track days, but they are not semi slicks. I find the tread wear not bad, but they are a softer compound to your standard street tyres so will wear abit faster. But for the price they are selling for, you can't really complain and once warmed up offer a little bit more grip than standard street tyres! :)
They are kind of a semi-semi slick if you get what I mean... kinda similar to the Falken RT615 tyres.

I can't seem to find anywhere in Sydney that has anything, apart from Toyo PX4 in 225/45/16 which they want $305 each for, which is out of my budget, wonder why Honda chose such a strange size? I am thinking will have to go for the Kumho KU31 205/45/16 . So far, how long have you had the KU36? would they last 20k ?

I had them for around 8,000km, so far with one track day. However I don't drive my car that much, so can't really comment on how long they would last.
Did a search, and there's some people's experience on the KU26 on this thread - http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?117002-Kumho-KU36-s

I was thinking of getting the Kumho KU31 instead back when I was looking for tyres, but I decided to go with the KU36, due to a bit more grip and price for they were selling it for. No complaints for me as a daily street tyre, just remember to warm them up before you do any spirited driving :)

Give Tempe tyres a call, I got a set of 4 x ku36 in 215/45/16 for $620

I just rang Tempe, they can do a set of KU36 for $700 but the issue I have is that I live 10 minutes from work, so I suppose the tyres would only be good when I am almost at work, and from what I have read, not good in the wet, so I think I will go for 205/45/16 which is sad as I really wanted that extra bit of grip on each corner, shame that the Aus bogan-mobiles dont use that size, there'd be a million different tyres for sale.

went thru the same decision a while back for our dc2r

thought about sticking to the oe 215/45 16 size for a set of 16x7 aftermarket wheels, but much more limited in tyre choices and most importantly RE11 from tire rack only comes in 205 45 16

I gathered 205 RE11 still has more rubber on the road than most road tyres anyway and ordered a set from tire rack usa, landed here for just over $1k.

Car currently on S drives and they are crap so stay away, apart from quiet ride, and low rolling resistance they are not good for much else in the grip department.

No need to warm up the RE11 at all, they grip from cold. After 2 laps+ at the track I would expect tyres like Z1 and AD08 to be more consistent and less greasy but for road use they are hard to beat for a road tyre.
