ok, I was under the car today and noticed that one of my outer driveshatft boots is beginning to perish and crack although it is not actually leaking as yet. So I want to replace all of them soon when I change over my suspension bushes as well.

Problem is I dont know what shafts I have on there! car is a DA9, with a JDM SiR B18C and a cable Y1 'box from a 89 CRX (I think) I cant remember what shafts were used when the conversion was done but as I bought both the engine and box separately and no front cut I would assume they are still my DA ones.

so, questions- what boot kit should I get, or are all B series compatible?
- do I need a new driver side axle seal for the gearbox, if so, for which car?

As I wont be touching the intermediate shaft I wont need a seal for the passenger side, but I think that it would be a sensible precaution to replace the driver side one. the boot kits for Civics/integras/CRX all have different part numbers and the seal kits are the same for DA9 and DC2 gearboxes from Honda but I cant find info for the JDM B16 box.

Thanks

I just took my EF8 driveshafts to a reco shop and although I had some boots they needed a few more, which they had loads in stock. I think some generic ones will fit the a good shop can surely figure it out for you on the spot.

I took 3 boots, had both driveshafts fully inspected, booted up, greased etc for $50 in about 30min. It's a messy job and for $50 I was happy to handball it lol.

You shouldn't need to change the seal for the gearbox unless you damage it on removal which you shouldn't. (just make sure not to pry against the seal when removing the axle.) The seal isn't really an item that will wear out once installed so you should be fine.

As for your shafts they would be the vtec shafts as the motor would be using a b18c mid shaft. Mind you you shouldnt have to replace the whole axle, just buy the boot and replace it. Pretty easy job if you don't mind getting dirty

Even if you do damage the seal it's usually on the outer edge and won't cause an oil leak, but 89lude is exactly right, I damaged mine and had to replace it out of fear lol. Cost me the day's hard work...
