Idk where to put this little fire extinguisher. It's about a foot and 1/3 tall and it has a brace that you can screw it onto somewhere/use double sided tape?

Mount it in arms reach. Up under the glove box, or mount it to the seat rail on the passenger side.

Allowed for street use ? I doubt it ! Also , it needs to be maintained too - they go off like a carton of milk.

But if you are keen to mount it for off road use , it will need to meet CAMS requirements -

CAMS RULES for extinguishers (Basic run down check cams site for full list)

Each automobile in any competition other than non-speed events must be equipped with a fire extinguisher
which complies with the following conditions and is properly fitted at a suitable location.
1.1 Hand held fire extinguishers:
(i) must remain restrained under an acceleration of 25G;
(ii) must be capable of removal by the driver (or crew, where applicable) without the aid of tools.

Table 1

Speed, Drifting, Race
AS1841
Except AS1841.2
900g (or more)
1 or more
Off Road 1.8kg
Road AS1841.5 2.0kg
Note: Halon extinguishers (1201 or 1311, including BCF) are not permitted under civil legislation.

Why wouldnt a fire extinguisher be legal for street use, out of curiosity?

Me, and plenty of other people have run fire extinguishers, and never had problems with police, rego inspectors, or anything else.

Its actually a very smart thing to have installed, especially if you have a modified car.

I know mine came in handy, i spat a rod through the block, oil hit the exhuast and caught fire, with the extinguisher i was able to put it out.

Well , its an assumption - they dont come standard in road cars - and generally any modification is illegal unless engineered. Yes - that means it CAN be allowed but lets agree here - this kid wants to put it in his car mounted somewhere that can be a possible hazard. Just giving him info above.

i had mine on the parcel shelf just for looks.. because i didnt expect my car to blow up or catch on fire any time soon.

anything in front of the legs in the footwell would be defect for sure as it impacts the crash safety of the car.

reckon the seat rail one is a good idea though, and I wouldn't think that would be illegal.

if you're just using for street, keeping it in the trunk is fine, if you're tracking, follow cams rules.

I also will not use any plastic holders/brackets...this will dislodge on impact and become a flying missile.
Use one with metal brackets with locking clips and bolt the extinguisher down tight and hard...

See that's awesome because most people would just use the crappy plastic one that would come with it.......... after reading ^^^^^^^^^ not anymore
