Hey all,

Test driving a 2007 FN Type R on Saturday, so thought I'd check the place out. I've been a member since Nov 2010, just never posted :)

I currently drive a 2003 Peugeot 206 GTi. It's completely stock, and has done well driving me to and from work, and around Brisbane over the last two years.

I also have a 1991 mk2 Golf GTI, which I've been building with my best mate as a track toy. Most stuff has been done, just engine left to sort out.

I know the 07 FN2 is fairly new still, but if there's anything I should look out for please do tell. It's got about 30,000k's on it.

Cheers,
Tim

before you test an FN2, drive an ep3 ;)

^ ^ I'll second that mate, every time I see an FN2 I laugh, I can't help it.. Go look for an ep3, you will love it

lol I was more just looking for a quick daily, something newer, plus I like the look of the fn2's. There's more choice too, EP3s are hard to find in Brisbane.

I know this is ozhonda but simply...

If you're looking for a fast daily, thats new/current and looks good..

get a VW Golf Gti... hehe

I searched for advice on buying an FN2 on OzHonda, this thread looks like it could be useful;

I've been a member on VW Watercooled for a few years, big problems with second hand mk5 GTIs, and I can't afford a new one.

I found that thread, a bit of rust isn't a deal breaker.

Looks like the fn2 isn't too popular around here :S

from what i have heard... doesnt have a type r feel, and been told they are a bit of a let down.

but at the end of the day, its what your happy with, not what everyone else thinks of them. everyone has different tastes.

i dont know what they are worth, but if i had like 30k, id be looking at wrx's lol mmmmm

I would love a WRX, however with insurance prices and running costs compared to a Type R, the Honda I believe may be better off?

Most of my driving will be in traffic to work. Performance isn't the main purpose (that's why I have a dedicated track car).

Mate jump on YouTube and look for topgears report on them, they put them head to head and you see the difference, the fn2 isn't made like the ep3... End of the day it's your choice

one of my best mates owns a red fn2r. It's a good car. A lot newer looking and feeling then the ep3. In saying that i'd prefer the ep3 because it comes with a better engine and chassis.

FN2R was built in England and we get the UK version so the K20 isn't as good as the JDM ep3 which got imported into OZ. Yes the ep3 was built in the UK as well but before being sold to the jap market, Honda Japan gave it some more balls!!

If you do buy the FN2R, try find one with the factory LSD, the earlier ones don't come with one which is stupid. Overall it's a very good car. good upgrade from the 206 GTI.

Ya I have seen the review a few times, the fn2 is slower around a track. I'll have to see how it goes when I test drive it.

A few reviews reckon it does the 0-100 dash in around 8seconds too, so I'll have to see how it feels!

So, I test drove the Type R today. Really nice, solid car. Felt good to drive, although I didn't push it as it was raining and traffic was heavy. Then got to a back road and gave it a nudge, pulls reasonably well. Didn't throw me back in my seat, but then I have had a few too many rides in Evo's and WRX's lately.

I think it'd be a great daily, pulled fine from 40km in 5th!!!!!! Don't know why people say there is no low down torque. The dealer was in the passenger seat, but 95% of my driving will be me alone, so it can only be even quicker..

Will have another look next week when the weather has cleared up.

Hi mate,

Just check out the car, I don't think there's anything special that you need to check out on the car. You could take it to a Honda specialist mechanic for pre-purchase inspection. Check that the owner has reciepts for work done with odometer readings. 30,000 is very low for a 4.5 year old car, if it's dodgy it could of had a cluster swap. Thats the only thing I can think of. If the Ks are genuine, the car should be in top nick, unless it has been used as a track car.

There isn't a lot of love for the FN2R round here cause compared to the EP... It's just not as exciting, not as fast, not lightweight, and not cheap considering the performance.

It should be fine for a daily, but why not a Skoda vRS?

I'm still on my P's. I've been working full time for a year and still live at home, I want to wait until I get on my opens, however, the Pug needs work done asap, and even if I could drive a turbo car, I sit in traffic most of my driving, so a 2l 4cl fwd is the way to go I think..

I'd b buying a 5k civic for a daily

The fn2 shouldn't have the tyPe r badge

some just dont believe the fn2r has lived up to the type r standards... no one is flaming the buyer. as previously said... personal preference.

hey i just picked up a fn2 too, upgraded it from a 206 gti 180

u mad?

imo fn2r looks better than an ep3r, have never taken one for a spin though (fn2r), can't imagine they'd be that fun. Maybe a good compromise of daily/sporty/styling.

Bloody awesome. The car doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart like the pug or cook itself with it's crazy cooling system. Even though it isn't regarded so highly, I'd pick a fn2 over the pug any day

Just enjoy the car man... Honda's are well built, TYPE-R or not :)

I love my EP3R but I also think the fn2’s are hot as well and a good progression for the blood line!

The problems with everyone comparing the new and old!
This seems a tad unfair to me..

All the EP3’s in Aus are the top of the line Jap spec imports
Versions with the best of best because Japs love having and keeping all the good shit for themselves lol

Just my opinion
