just finished swapping an OBD0 B16 out of a 1990 EF9 into an 89 LS integra.

All fine with no codes but runs SUPER RICH and not sure what is up.

Symptoms:
- lumpy idle but at correct rpm.
- Slightly hesitant/sputtery throttle response, WOT is fine.
- power seems decent and right to redline.
- blows a fair bit of black smoke under throttle and even at idle, even when warm.. Doesnt use any oil or coolant.

Have checked and swapped map, tb, tps, iacv, o2 sensors... We were using the B18A TB and TPS but i havnt been there to see running after swapping to the original b16 TB and TPS but apparently still fouling the plugs.
We cleaned the old iridium plugs that came in the frontcut and put them in and she idled perfectly and then we gave it a rev, perfect and no blk smoke, then a few seconds later it went ratty again. Pulled the plugs and fouled again.

All i can think of that hasnt been converted to EF9 spec is that the LS has two litte cannisters up on the firewall with the map sensor.. Apparently the LS has a purge solenoid for the evap (i think) but my ef9 and the frontcut only have the one little cannister.

Plan to match the vac hose diagram on the decal under the hood of my ef9, i figure we need to match the vac system to the ecu, but as i said we're not getting any codes. We DID get 2ndary O2 sensor code prior to swapping in another set oh O2's.

ps. Swap is all oem/stock except simota alloy intake tube + k&n pod filter, stock header and cat, but 2.5" cat back exhaust. Injectors etc all stock, im and tb etc all cleaned and new seals and gaskets, pwjdm im gasket. Opened up ecu to check is not chipped and all looks good. Dizzy set to centre but timing gun died when we went to set it.

are you sure your injectors are okay? maybe try a new set?

not sure, they should be fine, the o-rings might be suss but i think that would cause an external leak from prior experience... Havnt got any other obd1 injectors except in my ef9 lol but dont really want to risk the integrity of the 1989 vintage o-rings.

Any thing EF9 is OBD0 elec efi system they have different injectors to anything newer

I far as I know EF8/9 are 240cc injector same as aus spec ED9 crx's
Could be same as others

I think 89lude say the seals or something inside the inkectors could be gone, worn or dry out from sitting around in the halfcut for a while

i was going with the thought that one of your injectors could be stuck open thus running rich. but if its fouling all your plugs idk.. dunno what the chances of all 4 being stuck open is.

yeah spot on Anthony, all 4 are foulling nice and evenly :(
am being pointed to a faulty FPR perhaps ? or the cam timing is out ?

Check ECU coolant temp sensor.

^^
Agree with that, could be the coolant temp sensor, making ecu dump more fuel for a cold start.

Which ecu is it running? The Jap ECU?

Check the part number of the plugs, they could be too "cold" for the motor?

Check fuel pressure reg, think rail pressure should be 35-38psi on EF9 without vacuum connected - swap in your EF9's one for a quick test.

Ignitor module - look crappy? excessively hot to touch? like insta-burn your finger hot.

Inside of distributor cap look ok?

B18A FPR was same part number as EF9 so swapped that over and NO CHANGE :(

Simon we put in fresh oem plugs same as i run in my ef9 and the jdm b16 gen2 in my eg. We cleaned the ngk iridium things that were in the motor as imported from japan, and it ran better for about 20 seconds.. just long enough to star woot'ing.. but then blurghh foulled n rich again.. and more swearing lol.

We also tried my ef9 ecu and no change, had a look inside mine and wtf it's chipped!!! Written on the chip is 'ECU-MAN PW0 71'. I remember kb had it chipped when he had ek9 cams in there but i think its just a stock tune, havnt revved past 8k so dont where the limiter is.

Will see if B18A CTS is the same and try that one... someone also suggested blocked fuel return line but to me it looks like the ecu is tellin it to run rich, so wonky CTS might be on the money but it still isnt throwing any codes but will try anyway.
