I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find it anywhere.

I need a new set of plugs for my motor, don't wanna spend a million dollars on a set. Maybe max $50 for a set, also need to be in stock at autobarn/supercheap (prefer supercheap). What's the best bang for buck?

They all do the same job. Just look up the part numbers using Google.

Are the more expensive ones a bit of a scam? From what I understand the nice ones supercheap sell (ngk platinum or iridium I think) are reasonably priced and are good. Anything more expensive is just a rip off? Or should I not even bother with them and just get normal plugs?

you need a heat range of 7 at least

The more expensive platinum and iridium plugs are designed for long service intervals, like 80k kms.

The regular copper ones are designed more for 20k

Just get the right heat range and gap, and the cheaper ones will be fine.

Any difference in nickel, platinum & iridium other than service intervals? Like a noticeable performance gain or smoother running?

Seat of the pants, no...
Dyno, you can sometimes measure it...

If it makes you feel better, then yes. Makes you faster. Iridium does that.

Just get the cheap ones mate. I buy the cheap ones, and every service (5,000KM's) I take them out and inspect them, give them a bit of a clean up with some fine sandpaper to remove any excessive carbon desosit or whatever, then put a tiny bit of oil in the thread and pop them back in.

Irridiums aren't worth the coin IMO.

Irridiums aren't worth the coin IMO.I try to remove them as little as possible, why? Because Those cylinder heads are alloy and the less they get played with, the less likely the thread will fail. (I know that only complete n00bs could damage the thread but I'm just anal.)
I would avoid oil on the threads too, why? because oil will attract dirt/dust. The less dirt/dust in those threads the better. (I know that the plugs are completely sealed by the dust caps but I'm just anal.)

I went to supercheap/repco today, one person was pretty arrogant and rude telling me that If I didn’t buy iridium I could break my engine, I asked for plain sparkplugs and they only stock iridium. What a rip off, just trying to make you buy that specific plug by spending 90 dollars for a set of 4 opposed to 12 for a set at any respectable spare parts store.

Exact same thing happened to me. They said no cheap plug existed for type r so I got the medium one I think it was $94 for a set

The reason why us supercheapians say that coz when we search it up in the system it doesnt list a cheaper option it only list the iridiums which is whats recomended although some of us know which plug you csn use as a cheaper opyion but most dont know.

I gave the specific part number mentioned above for the cheap plugs and they still couldn't find them. Nor could he even order them

Exactly, it is a way for Supercheap to make more money out of you. Also Repco were advising the same thing. It was pretty annoying telling them i just want regular copper, then the girl behind the counter playing with her hair telling me she WOULD NOT sell them to me as they WILL damage my engine. Some other random old guy who did'nt work there who had no idea about the situation chimed in to tell me that im wrong... although they may say the manufacurer specs are to run these plugs there wont be a very noticable change if any(apart from longevity), they dont stock the regular in order for you to pay a premium. Anyway, I got a set of iridium today from a parts supplier for $60, might aswell change them less.
