Would EG Civic be suitable for a first car, or is it too old?

not at all - great little car, very reliable, easy to fix, parts are cheap, amazing on fuel, easy to park and drive =)
just make sure you get a fuel injected model (Gli, Vti or Vei)

my first car was a 93' EH9 Sedan, second car wasa 91' s13 (regret), third car was a 92' EG3 Hatch and fourth car is a 98' EK1 Sedan

hondas are awesome first, third or fourth car lol

Go for Vti models the top of the range eg in ADM form

It has em D16y1 Vtec motors

My pick of the eg crop is Eg5 hands down :D

The VTi also has nice things like 4-wheel disc brakes, full electrics, and a sunroof/moonroof. I have a VTi sedan. I love it :)

^^^ As above - I have had an EH9 since new, plus two EGs - an EG5 (Vti) and an EG3 which I'm converting into EG5. Great cars no question. I'm just dismantling a GLi 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer and the difference in quality is phenomenal - build quality, plastics, fabrics, options, etc.

cant go wrong really.... but the hard part is finding a unmolested Vti.... one without a engine swap or has less than 1600000kms

Mine has 207k KMs, has been given the t!ts a fair bit, still goes very nicely.

And since you can pick them up for like $5g these days then it's a bargain. You'll struggle to find one with less than 200k KMs though, but only because their last production was 16 years ago and the average Australian car is driven 14,000KM's a year. So do the maths, anything less than 200k KMs is nicely below average.

yeh very true, hard to find a civic that hasnt had tacho drilled into the dash or someone cutting into wires to add shit. i bought this civic 1 week ago for 4.2k. only 181k on clock owned by elderly lady

mind you it wasnt the model i wanted but the condition it was in and completely original is what i was looking for.
most other civics had 260k plus on clock or extremely hammered

EG Gli is a good option as well - the D15b7 is a great little engine and so cheap easy to mod =)

mine has just hit 320k kms and its still going strong =)

I first purchased an '01 DC2R when I was on my P's, just recently I have purchased an EG, and I feel like this is what I should have gone with in the first place.
The EG will make a GREAT first car, Honda quality and reliability is a great thing, the VTi's or GLi's are great economically, and they are a very fun car to drive.

It's everything you want from your first car, reasonably cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and service, and cheap to run!
There is also great room for improvement if you wanted to modify it, but if your not wanting to travel that path you will still be happy with it!
