Hi guys,

So something I noticed about my car, when it is not moving (e.g. waiting on red light) sometimes the rpm needle keeps dropping down close to 0 and then jumps back to 1 whether the gear is on N or D. I don't think it's normal as other times the rpm needle stays on 1.

Any suggestions as to what's causing this? Feel free to ask more questions about the car. Cheers.

Does the actual RPM of the engine drop ?

Or just the tacho drops up and down ? If its just the rpm tacho playing up its your ICM ( ignition control module) in the distributor

@dc2r-0636: I can hear the engine quieting down and revving itself when the rpm needle goes down and up respectively.

does it always do it? or just when its warm start up? or just when its cold start up?

-your timing could be off
-clogged fuel filter
-intake leak somewhere
-vacuum leak

or evn a dirty throttle body

Clean out the IACV first, its usually just clogged. There are guides in the DIY section.

@dc2r-0636: It doesn't always happen, sometimes it's steady at 1. It usually happens when the car is on the road for a while. I want to know how serious is this problem, I might visit a mechanic after I get my tax return.

@flipfire: Ah I see thanks for the info
