How do u tell the what gear box u got ?? if the gearbox has diff housing to the int

hi guys,

I have been doing a bit of search on the forum but dont think to find any result !!

now here is the case

I recently purchase an EG and been told the car has the B16 "Type R" gearbox with LSD. I cannot find the code on the gearbox all I can see is some writing " LSD " and underneeth it " N_4". now the previous ower pass the information to him and he pass it on to me !! I spoke to oringinal owner who build this car from scratch and he cannot remember if was a Type R gerbox or not !! but he did mention he bought a type r gear box that has been drop and had a crack casing and he bought a secondhand casing and transfer all the stuff across !!

now I am trying to buy new syncros for the gearbox but dont know what to get !!

only thing I know when I cruise at 110km/h the revs sits around 4300rpm !! anyone know what final drive it that ??

I think the JDM B18C has 4.75 FD and the ADM has 4.4FD so I am a little confuse !!

can some one please me to idendify the GB please !!

jdm itr 96 has 4.4 final drive
jdm itr 98+ has 4.785
adm itr has 4.785

ek9 i think came wigth 4.4?

sounds like you have a 4.9 final drive ? since its reving that high.

that sticker doesnt explain much.
gearcalculator is the best thing you can do.
unless you want to drop the gearbox and count gear teeth which will confirm what gearbox your have.

Yeah sounds like it would be 4.9, 4.7 is like ~3800@ 110

not really sure if the revs are correct so I am gonna plug in my hondata and read off it and see exactly what revs vs speed !!!

guys, just check it I was wrong. when the car sits at 110km/h the revs sits around 3800-3900rpm range !! so what do u guys think ???

also some one tell me to check if the car has lsd ?? and he ask me jack up the car and spin the front wheel. what does that mean ?? so if one wheel turns at the time does that mean I have or have not got LSD ???

please help !!

drop the clutch if it leaves 2 black marks you have an LSD haha

b series and most hondas use a helical diff, which means power needs to be applied for both wheels to spin, dont stress if you jack your car up and only one wheel turns and not the other.
