umm they are the same box, same serials. me and wynode have compared before.. alas i belive the vti box is stronger, cause i ALWAYS hear of Si box's having problems, and never the vti's

As far as I know the VTi box is the shortest of ALL D-series gearboxes.. I cant quote you exact ratios and final drives off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure the final drive ratio is slightly shorter than the Si.

more so to do with the age of the box methinks....and also the amount of Si's ive seen - have always been "thrashed" lol.

That's because Si's make more power than Vtis ;) j/k

May I ask if you can provide some evidence to support this?

also...evidence to back this comment up plz.

AFAIK , and from my experience - the Si gearbox is quite strong and sturdy- takes ALOT of punishment if u ask me. (even the OEM clutch - fights unitl the last breath!)

Everything mechanical dies and needs to be replaced .

my SI gearbox can stand for a few runs down the quater mile ( rev limiter launch and flatshifting ) and a daily trash for around 2 years before it gave up on me.

I just installed my rebuilt Si gearbox and new exedy heavy duty clutch last dec 04 , let see how long will it last.

so the Vti gearbox can fit on an Si?, what about the Vti-R and type r boxes?

EG5, I rebuilt my gearbox 2yr ago with exedy HD clutch too. So far so good.

I remember back in the day before FnF and all this whoring of honda there was a guy up north who was one of the first to turbo his Si, making 200hp at the treads comfy with stock box.

No the VTi and Si are both D-series motors, the drivesshafts are the same size also, so they are interchangeable! THe the VTI-R is B-series, totally different!

Back on topic. I can't say anything for the Si box, but I just bought a VTi and I'm re-learning how to change gear. Strange shifting gears in a car where the clutch ans synchros work!! :p

The VTi box I'm told is the shortest D-series box. And it could very well be true... but 1st and 2nd are freakin' LONG! 2nd takes you to 100km/h. Then 4th and 5th are short as! When you hit 100, you can short shift from redline in 2nd to over 3kRPM in 5th. At 110, it's doing 3 and a half in 5th!

So it's good for racing (where you dont drop below about 80) but not good for drags.

I can't hit 100Km/h in second in my Si......only around 90-95Km/h

3rd tops out around 120 or so.

yeah the si box will sit at 3.5krpm at 110 in 5th.

everyones seems a bit different. 2nd redlines at 90kmh in my si and 3rd at about 135kmh

The second line of your post sounds about right sivic :)

Yep, that seems right. I found my speedo over-reads. 100 reads as 105 on the speedo. I'll check redline in 3rd when I get the chance.

out of curiousity, is the gear box out of these vti's the same on the coupes ej8?My 2nd goes to 100 and i've spoken to another ej8 civic owner and says his 2nd only holds till about 90? Can somebody clear this up?

ive only ever pushed 2nd gear to 90-95kph but this is a stock si with only a pod filter.

95 is about the max. just under the rev limiter its shy of 100km/h
