Active Torque Transfer System.. basically help understeering around corners and keeps the car stable

whats the difference between ATTS and say, an LSD in a DC2R?

any advantage of one over the other? power limitations etc?

i think this has been discussed before.. do a search on it

ATTS is electronic, LSD is mechanical
H22as also come with LSDs in japan

do you pay much extra for ATTS, i can see it would be 2 k or wateva on a new car but on an older model will it make much diff ?

About $1-3K premium over a VTiR

every one has mixed opinions about ATTS, I like it, but each to there own.

I thought it transfered power between the front wheels to minimise understeer?

it does

Just a trivial addition to the thread.
In Australia its badged ATTS on the front grille.

In Japan its Prelude Type SH.
H = Handling

Isnt prelude type SH american?

Had to dig this post up from the grave.
What type of LSD is the JDM H22a?
Is it a clutch, viscous, or helical?

Viscous mate, JDM Prelude SiR S-Spec had them AFAIK, and I believe that's what yours is from =)

Still dont know whether i have it or not
When i bring it to the mechanics i will get them to look it and and tell me do i have one.

If it is a viscous type LSD, does it require any kind of maintenance? Like a fluid/oil change?

And if the LSD was to break down, will the car still drive fine as if it just had a standard open diff?

Viscous LSD works on the same principle as an automatic transmission, which is that the fluid inside of it heats up as it shears, changing its viscosity. When a wheel slips, power is transferred to the other wheel, so power is applied smoothly. There is very little loss under power in such a system, but there is some loss of power during slip. Viscous limited slip units effectively never wear out unless a seal fails -- the fluid could theoretically be burned up, but the engine would probably die first.

As for it failing... I believe that yes, it would just open-wheel... someone please correct me if i'm wrong!

notsure about LSD
but you can drve without the atts, just disable it by pulling out the fuse.

pretty sure the prelude SH is american.. the SH stands for "super handling" (which i know sounds crazy, but its true!)
im not sure about the jap models (as to whether SH or atts)
there are some good threads on this on preludeaustralia.com

actually..*cough* superior handling. yes this is the atts equivelent in the states and their "base" or non atts model is our vtir. they do not have any non vtec 5th gens there.

atts transfers up to 80% of torque to the outside wheel when taking a turn for a sharper turn with less understeer.
