Hey guys, been wanting to do a build thread for a while now, never got the time to - so i thought i should start now while im bludging haha

Well here's my car
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj145/nn11ck/IMG_6349.jpg
that was when i first bought it, looked nice, sitting on coilovers and had a nice little exhaust, but there were a few things that werent perfect - sunroof wasnt 100% working and it was burning oil and turned out (after driving it for a while) that the rear coils were busted. So i had to raise it up on stockies
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/5483/img0892vl.jpg

looked like crap but the ride was so much better than just bouncing around everywhere. oh i also got some ambers from jdmyard :D

so thats basically how it stood. like a 4wd :p

First of all - i'd like to apologise for the lack of quality in the following pics; using a nokia e63, only 2mp camera :( but itll get better, got a samsung now :D

me and a couple of mates installing new head deck + speakers

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6994/image099x.jpg
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/8276/image103r.jpg

got myself a twinloop exhaust from a good mate, i wanted something loud when i put my foot down but sensible when im driving like a granny, and i was considering a varex but theyre all to expensive for an apprentice :P so twinloop seemed like a good choice

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3903/image112i.jpg

took quite a while to install, mostly because the springs on the exhaust bolts were too long, so had to angle grind them to make them fit. tadaa!
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/7458/image113uu.jpg

also made a mad jdm eg on gt4 while i was at work :L

LOL parked at wetherhill park cinemas and didnt realise the cement thing at the end of the parking space was so high - literally like 1.5mm from the exhaust haha

hmm. seems like i didnt take a picture of it. but i lowered my car again, on ek shocks with lowering springs - fronts are tein, rears are idk. looks nice now :)

ok time for a new chapter :D

My mate bought a vtir with the intention of putting the engine into his car, but needing funds for something else, he sold me the engine (+ whole conversion kit). Was pretty happy cause my old engine was a nugget; that said, it still kept up with newer generation D's lol

^ by the time that image was taken, the engine had been partly reconditioned - Did all the gaskets and seals except for the head gasket. New timing belt/water pump/accessory belts/ spark plugs/ leads etc. It turned out that the engine had an excellent service history, everythings been recorded and when we took the engine apart, there wasnt a sign of that black muck clumping up in the crevasses in the block. G/box oil was full clean and clear when we took it out too.

- On a completely different matter; i took this for a good 'test drive' after servicing it at work :p

- Back on topic: Taking the eg apart
Started to dismantle the eg so we can shove the new motor in

engine in-

Chucked on some vtir brakes
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/9861/photo0011zt.jpg

While we were stripping the engine beforehand, two of the extractor studs snapped off, so had to redrill the holes and put new studs in. one is still yet to go in, so i hope it doesnt leak :L
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/6499/photo0014zd.jpg

Had to get a new clutch right there and then, cause engine was about to go in. Since i was seriously strapped for cash then, i opted for the cheaper option- found myself a new valeo clutch kit, 300 bucks haha
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3043/photo0013b.jpg
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/1933/photo0017e.jpg

Chucked the engine in without a gearbox, left it there overnight cause it was time to go home lol
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/8210/photo0019e.jpg
Next day came back and finished it, box went in fine, had some trouble getting the rear L bracket in, resorted to taking the gbox mounts off so we could swing the engine forward and get the rear bracket in. By this time everything lined up except for the ac lines, the stock eg ones were too short, so im goin to get someone to weld up a new connection so they can reach the compressor.
all done!
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/7161/photo0018s.jpg

all timed correctly, but its idling pretty high (1.5K) and its like not consistent either, sounds like ive got cams. also have a cel on, and its on limp mode, cant go over 3.5K when im driving. will have to get that checked out by a mechanic or something. does anyone have any ideas why my engine's running like this? cant chech cel codes cause the scs connector doesnt work; or maybe its just me. ill have a more thorough go soon, but if anyone knows whats wrong/have had similar experiences please tell me! :( :( :(

fuarkkkkkk.

drove it out for the first time after the convert and 30 minutes later the p/s pulley decided to go for a walkabout :( someone mustve loosened the nut that was holding the pulley in while the engine was out. so it rounded the fkin thread and i cant get the nut back on

ffs - time for a replacement pump :thumbdwn:

Should of invested in a proper tunable ecu. Those Chipped ECU will do more harm then good over OEM

What engine did u have in to start with? And what have u done with the one you pulled out? Is it in decebt condition? I need to redo my engine I've got a d16y4 but with 4x motobike carbys..
Issue is I don't have alot of cash.. if you can help out with parts you don't need any more and wouldn't mind parting with it for a little extra cash I'm here brother =]
I'm in sydney Liverpool area..

i have the old d16a8 lying around, dont think you can use it for much though mans, its efi and yours (im assuming) is carby, so you'll have to change the fuel tank and lines and whatnot :/ . what do you need?

Id seriously rather go efi because of the better milage..
I need pretty much the whole bay..
I just posted in 2001+
I need wires, cables, mounts.. pretty much a whole new bay..
The issue is I don't have a huge amount of cash.. my knowledge is next to none either.. so I'm pretty stuck in a hard place..

Got my P/S fixed, tried so hard to get the bolt back on, even tried using a b16 pump, which kinda failed.
what's more fail, after all the sweat and comparing the 2 pumps side by side, only then did i realise that the b18s pump was a left hand thread =.= ffs spinning the wrong way

but on the brighter side of things, i painted my plug cover - lexus pearl white... and texta'd a rising sun on it lool

oh and installed some foggies! yay! non gens though, didnt line up too perfectly, but does the job :)
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8636/photo0039da.jpg

OH and installed some koni yellow adjustables - raised it (a little bit too much imo) but handles a lot better, no more scraping on the sump and extractors when i go over bumps. now i need bigger sway bars
sigh..spending so much on this car :(

Might be a silly question, but how long did it take you to pull your old motor out? And how many hands were involved?
