Hey man when was the last time you changed the oil? I know that they can chew through a bit so I make an effort with my b16 to do the oil changes more regular than recommended, and when the oil is low vtec will kick in later or not at all. I had this same problem so try that:)

Check the value of the ECU coolant temp sensor.
The reading on the dash means nothing.

It's value, not valve.
There are two sensors under the dizzy. Both of which are temp sensors.
One controls the temp gauge and the radiator fan, it has a single wire, bullet style connector with a YEL/GRN wire.
The other is the ECU sensor, it has two wires. This is the sensor you need to check.
You will need a multimeter to measure the resistance when at operating temp.
At operating temp there should be between 200-400Ω of resistance. If there is not replace the sensor.
